{"id":27795,"date":"2023-12-17T15:05:19","date_gmt":"2023-12-17T20:05:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=27795"},"modified":"2023-12-17T15:05:19","modified_gmt":"2023-12-17T20:05:19","slug":"whats-on-the-table","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=27795","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s on the table"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/latimerforny.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Westchester County Executive George Latimer<\/a> announced <a href=\"https:\/\/yonkerstimes.com\/latimer-makes-it-official-im-running-for-congress-in-ny-16\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his intention to primary<\/a> incumbent <a href=\"https:\/\/bowman.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jamaal Bowman<\/a> for the Democrat nomination for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latfor.state.ny.us\/maps\/congress2022\/con16.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CD-16<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The district is not considered competitive so whomever wins the Democrat primary will likely walk away with the general election.<\/p>\n<p>Both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westchestergov.com\/home\/all-press-releases\/9564-county-executive-george-latimer-signs-bill-mandating-warning-of-the-dangers-of-weapons-or-firearms-at-the-point-of-sale-and-issuance-of-firearm-license\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Latimer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2023\/03\/30\/jamaal-bowman-thomas-massie-shouting-gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bowman<\/a> are bad on 2A. Which is worse is debatable.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, 2A supporters should back Latimer in the primary. The district is represented right now by a gun control advocate. That won&#8217;t change after the election. However, if Latimer wins the primary he would have to give up his job as County Executive giving us an opportunity to get a better candidate into that office.
