Pat Ryan<\/a>, announced plans to attempt an end-run around GOP leadership to force a vote on banning military-style semi-automatic guns and enhancing background checks for gun purchases. <strong>They introduced a legislative tool called a discharge petition.<\/strong> If they get a majority of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.house.gov\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">House<\/a> lawmakers to sign on, they can bring the bills up for consideration. \u201cWe\u2019re not going to stick by the old rules. We\u2019re not going to wait for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.speaker.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[Speaker] Kevin McCarthy<\/a>, his MAGA extremist allies, who all day long lecture about public safety and crime,\u201d Ryan said &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The antis in Albany used to do this when Republicans still controlled the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Senate<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n<p>The chicken-shit Republicans <strong>never<\/strong> do this.  It won&#8217;t work legislative, but it does help politically by keeping their agenda alive and putting the opposition on the defensive.  It generates media attention and helps with fundraising.  Republicans, <a href=\"https:\/\/nygop.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">especially in Albany<\/a>, are too cowardly and stupid to do this on any issue.
