{"id":26504,"date":"2022-11-14T13:37:44","date_gmt":"2022-11-14T18:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=26504"},"modified":"2022-11-14T13:37:44","modified_gmt":"2022-11-14T18:37:44","slug":"make-gianaris-the-scapegoat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=26504","title":{"rendered":"Make Gianaris the scapegoat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It looks like while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/14\/upshot\/tracking-election-house-results.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Republicans appear to have a majority<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.house.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate<\/a> will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/politics\/schumer-reacts-to-keeping-senate-control-victory-and-vindication-for-democrats-and-america\/ar-AA142OiR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remain in Democrat hands<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The election results were less than what I&#8217;d hoped for, but there are some bright spots <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/11\/12\/if-democrats-want-a-scapegoat-for-losing-the-house-mike-gianaris-is-their-man\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">including this<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; the guy Dems can most readily finger for this mess is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/michael-gianaris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queens state Sen. Mike Gianaris<\/a>, who\u2019s universally seen as the prime mover of New York Dems\u2019 disastrous redistricting debacle. Yes, he\u2019s only the deputy Senate majority leader, but the No. 1, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/andrea-stewart-cousins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrea Stewart-Cousins<\/a>, by all accounts lets him handle a lot. (So much so that some call her a mere figurehead.) And he definitely took point on redistricting &#8230; That opened the door for Republicans to go to court to get the \u201cHochulmander\u201d (so called because the gov signed on) tossed and have a truly neutral expert draw up fair, compact districts without regard for either party\u2019s advantage.
