The Democrats are accusing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dutchessny.gov\/Departments\/County-Legislature\/District-7.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Legislature Majority Leader Will Truitt (R-Hyde Park)<\/a> of inciting the alleged \u201chate speech.\u201d According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dutchessny.gov\/Departments\/County-Legislature\/District-16.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minority Leader Yvette Valdes Smith (D-Fishkill\/Beacon)<\/a>, Truitt read a letter condemning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-announces-new-concealed-carry-laws-passed-response-reckless-supreme-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Governor Hochul\u2019s stance on the new state gun laws<\/a> and was followed by participants who upset the minority caucus when they spoke during the \u201cpublic comment\u201d portion of the meeting. The Democrats say, \u201cOne speaker claimed \u2018illegals\u2019 are the cause of the gun problem in the country, while another lamented not being able to bring his gun with him since he had to travel to the City of Poughkeepsie to attend the meeting.\u201d Minority Leader Valdes Smith noted that the speakers thanked Legislator Truitt for inviting them to the meeting &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dutchessny.gov\/Departments\/County-Legislature\/District-1.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Legislator Giancarlo Llaverias (D-Town of Poughkeepsie)<\/a> considered the public comments to be racist. In explaining why he walked out of the meeting, he said, \u201cI won\u2019t tolerate the disrespect of my community or of my hometown,\u201d adding \u201cThe fact that Will Gunnar Truitt orchestrated this attack against the residents of Poughkeepsie especially the black and brown community is wild,\u201d when referencing the comments from one speaker who complained about having to park a distance from the meeting and he felt unsafe by not being able to carry a weapon due to the new gun laws, which are winding through the courts &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Typical leftist tacit. When in doubt cry racism and hope that shuts down your opponent.<\/p>\n<p>Why would anyone <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/poughkeepsie-hotel-shooters-gang-connection-223300240.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">feel unsafe in Poughkeepsie<\/a>?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The suspects who were arrested Sunday after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/police-1-dead-in-shooting-at-hotel-near-marist-college\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deadly shooting at a hotel near Marist College<\/a> in Poughkeepsie have gang ties, police said &#8230; The two suspects, 35-year-old Roy Johnson, Jr., and 26-year-old Devin Taylor, are known to police. Both were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and Johnson was additionally charged with murder &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Speaking of discrimination, <a href=\"https:\/\/thereload.com\/new-york-uses-historic-gun-bans-for-native-americans-catholics-to-justify-current-restrictions-in-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">what is Tish James&#8217; referencing in her defense of the state&#8217;s new gun laws<\/a>?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; New York cited historical bans on gun ownership by Native Americans and Catholics to support its current concealed-carry permitting law. The state argued in <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.nynd.133602\/gov.uscourts.nynd.133602.19.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Monday filing<\/a> its \u201cgood moral character\u201d clause, which allows officials to deny permits to those they don\u2019t feel are good people, is rooted in the historical tradition of \u201cAnglo-American\u201d gun regulations.
