{"id":2634,"date":"2010-11-01T11:55:04","date_gmt":"2010-11-01T15:55:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=2634"},"modified":"2010-11-01T11:55:04","modified_gmt":"2010-11-01T15:55:04","slug":"news-of-the-day-35","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=2634","title":{"rendered":"News of the day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite popular demand, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysrpa-pvf.org\" target=\"_blank\">we<\/a> will not be doing ratings and endorsements for candidates in Vermont. \u00a0That is the job of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vtfsc.org\" target=\"_blank\">Vermont Federation of Sportsmen&#8217;s Clubs<\/a> and\/or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nra.org\" target=\"_blank\">NRA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With the handwriting on the wall, the Times <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/11\/01\/nyregion\/01senate.html\" target=\"_blank\">acknowledges<\/a> that the <a href=\"http:\/\/newyorksenatedems.com\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Democrats<\/a> will likely lose control after tomorrows elections. \u00a0I think <a href=\"http:\/\/www.siena.edu\/uploadedfiles\/home\/Parents_and_Community\/Community_Page\/SRI\/SNY_Poll\/2010StateSenatePollRelease3FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Brian Foley is toast<\/a> in SD-3.  Fred Dicker <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/p\/news\/local\/madam_gets_hooked_up_with_new_pEuYz6VKoyZprizvpro7wO\" target=\"_blank\">believes<\/a> that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.senatorantoinethompson.com\" target=\"_blank\">Antoine Thompson<\/a> might be in trouble in SD-60, although he&#8217;s the only one I&#8217;ve seen who says that.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.workingfamiliesparty.org\" target=\"_blank\">WFP<\/a> is clearly worried about Demcorats losing as well. \u00a0They sent out mailers telling people <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsday.com\/long-island\/politics\/spin-cycle-1.812042\/5th-a-d-wfp-tells-members-not-to-vote-for-wfp-candidate-1.2388162\" target=\"_blank\">not to vote for their endorsed candidates<\/a> in at least two races: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stachowski.org\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Stachowski<\/a> in SD-58 and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ginnyfields.com\" target=\"_blank\">Ginny Fields<\/a> in AD-5, both of whom lost their Democrat endorsements and whose seats could switch to the GOP. \u00a0Stachowski has stopped campaigning, but Ginny has continued her campaign on the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Independence_Party_of_New_York\" target=\"_blank\">Independence<\/a> line.<\/p>\n<p>On <a href=\"http:\/\/www.capitaltonight.com\/2010\/11\/dems-coattails-approach\/\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Cuomo&#8217;s coattails<\/a>: simple, he&#8217;s got none. \u00a0He&#8217;s probably going to end up winning, but it will be due to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nygop.org\" target=\"_blank\">establishment GOP<\/a> not putting any serious effort into that race.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ny1.com\/content\/news_beats\/politics\/128132\/poll-show-ag-candidates-neck-and-neck\/\" target=\"_blank\">race for attorney general is now tied<\/a> between microstamping&#8217;s man man <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ericschneiderman.com\" target=\"_blank\">Eric Schneiderman<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/mayor\" target=\"_blank\">Bloomberg&#8217;s<\/a> puppet <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dandonovan.org\" target=\"_blank\">Dan Donovan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of Mayor Mike, the Daily News <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/ny_local\/2010\/11\/01\/2010-11-01_bloomys_albany_windfall.html\" target=\"_blank\">thinks that his political capital may rise<\/a> after the elections:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Bloomberg also sent $3,800 to another Long Islander, Democratic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelleschimel.com\" target=\"_blank\">Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel<\/a>, who carried the micro-stamping bill, which passed in 2008, 2009 and 2010.  The micro-stamping bill has long been stalled in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Senate<\/a>, in part due to the powerful gun lobby. This caused a rift between Bloomberg and the GOP. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.padavanforsenate.com\" target=\"_blank\">Padavan<\/a> voted &#8220;yes&#8221; this past June before the bill was pulled from the floor because of a lack of votes. The mayor gave $3,800 to a second Democrat, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.morelle.com\" target=\"_blank\">Assemblyman Joe Morelle<\/a> of Rochester.
