{"id":2589,"date":"2010-10-27T09:45:00","date_gmt":"2010-10-27T13:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=2589"},"modified":"2010-10-27T09:45:00","modified_gmt":"2010-10-27T13:45:00","slug":"bloomberg-is-worried","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=2589","title":{"rendered":"Bloomberg is worried"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/mayor\" target=\"_blank\">Mayor Mike<\/a> realizes that the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sullivan_Act\" target=\"_blank\">Sullivan Law<\/a> isn&#8217;t going to stand up to legal challenges so he wants to try and lower the fee structure for firearm licenses in hopes of preserving as much of his power to screw over ordinary citizens as possible. \u00a0See <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/council.nyc.gov\" target=\"_blank\">INT 313-2010<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>However, since the Clown Council doesn&#8217;t have as much experience with gun issues as he does, they don&#8217;t seem to grasp the situation. \u00a0As <a href=\"http:\/\/council.nyc.gov\/d37\/html\/members\/home.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Councilman Erik Dilan<\/a> told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/p\/news\/local\/bloomy_gun_plan_backfire_nqIFaam6NedDgY77i42IDM\" target=\"_blank\">the Post<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; I  don&#8217;t know how anybody could . . . speculate that we&#8217;re going to be  sued by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nra.org\" target=\"_blank\">National Rifle Association<\/a> or any other entity for the fee  when it&#8217;s been set at that rate for several years,&#8221; he said &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He probably does not understand that up until <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotusblog.com\/case-files\/cases\/mcdonald-v-city-of-chicago\/\" target=\"_blank\">McDonald<\/a><\/em>, New York State operated under the notion that there is no right to own guns and therefore all gun control laws were acceptable. \u00a0Incorporation changed that. \u00a0I also doubt that he and most other most Councilmembers realize that New York City gun laws are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">way<\/span> out of the mainstream. \u00a0Bloomberg knows this and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/p\/news\/local\/mike_sticks_to_his_guns_F4HpAYv5U281CmRBmYuVQK\" target=\"_blank\">clearly expects problems<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; &#8220;We want to be in compliance with the law as we understand the Chicago decision was made. We don&#8217;t want to lose the ability to have reasonable controls.
