{"id":24301,"date":"2021-09-09T09:59:59","date_gmt":"2021-09-09T13:59:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=24301"},"modified":"2021-09-09T14:07:16","modified_gmt":"2021-09-09T18:07:16","slug":"chipman-goes-down-in-flames","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=24301","title":{"rendered":"Chipman goes down in flames"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Big win for 2A!<\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post reports that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/chipman-atf-withdraw\/2021\/09\/09\/d5804a3a-1108-11ec-a511-cb913c7e5ba0_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden&#8217;s nominee to head the ATF David Chipman<\/a> is being withdrawn.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/09\/09\/statement-from-the-president-on-withdrawal-of-david-chipmans-nomination-to-lead-atf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official White House presser<\/a> tries to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeaderMcConnell\/status\/1435963574883586048\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blame Republicans<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Republicans in Congress have made clear that they intend to use gun crime as a political talking point instead of taking serious steps to address it. That\u2019s why they\u2019ve moved in lockstep to block David Chipman\u2019s confirmation &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ok, but did <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schumer.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chuck Schumer<\/a> try to salvage the nomination <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/spencerbrown\/2021\/06\/24\/committee-vote-on-bidens-atf-nominee-ends-in-tie-n2591526\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">like The Hill suggested<\/a> back in June?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; The tied committee vote Thursday means Chipman&#8217;s nomination will still be put to a full vote on the Senate floor, but Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will have to navigate some procedural hurdles &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Did Chuck do any of this?\u00a0 No.<\/p>\n<p>Chipman worked for the gun control group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.giffords.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Giffords<\/a>. The antis put everything they had behind him, knowing he&#8217;d be their shill, and they lost big-time.
