{"id":24210,"date":"2021-08-19T14:41:53","date_gmt":"2021-08-19T18:41:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=24210"},"modified":"2021-08-19T14:41:53","modified_gmt":"2021-08-19T18:41:53","slug":"latimer-floated-for-governor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=24210","title":{"rendered":"Latimer floated for Governor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some rumor-mongering at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/capitol\/article\/2022-buzz-Latimer-pushed-for-governor-new-AG-16395726.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Times Union<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; A recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/state\/article\/Cuomo-s-exit-sets-up-scramble-to-replace-him-16377622.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Times Union story<\/a> about who might run for governor in 2022 included many possible entrants for the Democratic nomination. One name not included: <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_S._Latimer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Westchester County Executive George Latimer<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Terry_Gipson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Former state Sen. Terry Gipson<\/a>, a Democrat who served in the Senate with Latimer, wrote in to say that Latimer should definitely be considered &#8230; Gipson, who has been encouraging Latimer to run for governor, noted Westchester County under Latimer passed several progressive measures before state government eventually acted on them &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Latimer has a proven antigun record <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theexaminernews.com\/assembly-makes-move-for-stricter-gun-control-in-new-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the state legislature<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westchestergov.com\/home\/all-press-releases\/7567-county-executive-latimer-signs-legislation-prohibiting-gun-shows-on-county-property\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in Westchester County<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, the best opportunity for 2A activism may be during a Democrat primary and in that case it would be to push aside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/politics\/2021\/08\/18\/public-advocate-jumaane-williams-considering-a-run-for-governor-in-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an even worse candidate<\/a> as opposed to supporting a pro-gun one.  That is the reality of gun politics in New York.
