Richard Aborn<\/a> is the former head of Handgun Control (Brady Campaign<\/a>.)\u00a0 He’s directly responsible for the Brady Law<\/a> and the ’94 Clinton gun ban<\/a>.\u00a0 He based his campaign for Manhattan DA entirely upon his gun control record.\u00a0 He hadn’t tried a case in like 20 years so it’s not as if he could base it on his extensive legal experience.<\/p>\n

He spent the last year on the campaign trail talking about gun control.\u00a0 He raised over a million dollars for his campaign.\u00a0 He had more endorsements than either of his opponents including ones from Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy<\/a>, State Senators Eric Schneiderman<\/a> and Eric Adams<\/a>, Assemblypersons Jonathan Bing<\/a>, Deborah Glick<\/a>, Richard Gottfried<\/a>, Brian Kavanagh<\/a>, Daniel O’Donnell<\/a>, Linda Rosenthal<\/a> and Michelle Schimel<\/a>, the Brady Campaign, Gun Free Kids<\/a>, Million Mom March<\/a> and New Yorkers Against Gun Violence<\/a>.\u00a0 The Brady Campaign donated $1000.\u00a0 NYAGV founder Barbara Hohlt and current mouthpiece Jackie Hilly each made personal campaign contributions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Aborn repeatedly attacked the NRA<\/a> and accused them of being out to get him.\u00a0 He attacked opponent Cy Vance<\/a> for a small campaign donation<\/a> he made years ago to a politician in Seattle who just so happened to be pro-gun.\u00a0 He sent out a mailer of him shaking hands with Bill Clinton, implying Clinton endorsed Aborn, which pissed Clinton off<\/a> because he didn’t.\u00a0 Aborn attacked the R&P and thought it was funny<\/a> we would tell members to vote against him.\u00a0 He finished up by making a last minute personal loan of $50,000 to his campaign.<\/p>\n

The end result?<\/p>\n

Aborn had his butt kicked up and down the boro.\u00a0 He didn’t just lose; he came in dead last<\/a> with only a quarter of the votes.\u00a0 He did so badly it should damage the creditability of those who endorsed him because a solid majority of Manhattan Democrats wanted nothing to do with him or his agenda.<\/p>\n
