{"id":24185,"date":"2021-08-11T14:59:48","date_gmt":"2021-08-11T18:59:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=24185"},"modified":"2021-08-11T15:01:41","modified_gmt":"2021-08-11T19:01:41","slug":"training-candidates-to-run-for-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=24185","title":{"rendered":"Training candidates to run for office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/08\/10\/us\/politics\/everytown-for-gun-safety-campaigns.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The gun-control group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.everytown.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Everytown for Gun Safety<\/a> plans to spend $3 million to recruit and train its volunteers to run for office, with a goal of having 200 enter races in the next election cycle &#8230; Everytown\u2019s new program, called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everytown.org\/demand-a-seat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Demand a Seat<\/a>, will begin this fall and will involve training in the nuts and bolts of running a campaign, as well as instruction from advocates-turned-legislators &#8230; It is aimed at members of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.momsdemand.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moms Demand Action<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/studentsdemandaction.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Students Demand Action<\/a>, two arms of Everytown, which is backed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mikebloomberg.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael R. Bloomberg<\/a> &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Gun control is and always will be a stinker of an issue. There is no way candidates can win building a campaign around. This has to be a proxy for the hard Left.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; [<a href=\"https:\/\/joellaforkansas.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Representative Jo Ella Hoye<\/a>] and [Congresswoman Lucy McBath] will advise the program\u2019s participants, as will, among others, <a href=\"https:\/\/keishalancebottoms.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms of Atlanta<\/a>, a Democrat; <a href=\"https:\/\/iop.harvard.edu\/fellows\/mayor-mitch-landrieu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">former Mayor Mitch Landrieu of New Orleans<\/a>, a Democrat; and <a href=\"https:\/\/davidjolly.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">former Representative David Jolly of Florida<\/a>, who was a Republican while in office but has since left the party &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This evidence supports my suspicion.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, groups like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saf.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SAF<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firearmspolicy.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FPC<\/a> and maybe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nraila.org\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NRA-ILA<\/a>, should consider putting together similar programs.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D24185&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
