{"id":22904,"date":"2020-11-18T13:32:54","date_gmt":"2020-11-18T18:32:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=22904"},"modified":"2020-11-18T13:32:54","modified_gmt":"2020-11-18T18:32:54","slug":"nra-settles-carry-guard-case-with-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=22904","title":{"rendered":"NRA settles Carry Guard case with New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nra.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NRA<\/a> has been maintaining the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-08-06\/nra-s-long-list-of-financial-misdeeds-as-claimed-in-n-y-lawsuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">actions taken by New York State against it<\/a> are nothing more than a political witch-hunt.<\/p>\n<p>No doubt there are many local politicians who are looking for an excuse to go after the Corporation. Problem for them (NRA) is that <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/526514-nra-to-pay-fine-halt-insurance-sales-in-new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NRA gave them reasons to start an investigation<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The National Rifle Association (NRA) has agreed to halt insurance business in New York for five years and will pay a $2.5 million fine over charges related to that work &#8230; The agreement resolved charges related to the NRA\u2019s relationship with insurance broker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lockton.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lockton Cos<\/a>, which sold over 28,000 NRA-endorsed policies. Among the plans offered was the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/nras-carry-guard-comes-under-fire-as-murder-insurance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carry Guard<\/a>\u201d program &#8230; the NRA allegedly received over $1.8 million in associated royalties and fees and ultimately kept between 13.67 percent and 21.92 percent of premiums paid. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dfs.ny.gov\/reports_and_publications\/press_releases\/pr202011181\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The NRA operated as an unlicensed insurance producer and broke the New York Insurance Law by soliciting insurance products and receiving compensation<\/a>,\u201d said Superintendent of Financial Services Linda Lacewell &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is just dumb.<\/p>\n<p>It is clear that <strong>nobody<\/strong> at NRA did any sort of due diligence before offering Carry Guard in the state. I&#8217;m not in the business but even I know that the insurance industry is heavily regulated, especially in New York.  There is no excuse for this.
