{"id":22516,"date":"2020-09-18T11:50:33","date_gmt":"2020-09-18T15:50:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=22516"},"modified":"2020-09-18T11:50:33","modified_gmt":"2020-09-18T15:50:33","slug":"red-flag-law-rarely-used","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=22516","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Red Flag&#8217; law rarely used"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The New York Law Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/newyorklawjournal\/2020\/09\/17\/in-first-year-on-books-red-flag-gun-law-rarely-used-in-nyc-data-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> that the much ballyhooed &#8220;Red Flag&#8221; gun control law the legislature passed last year, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2019\/a2689\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A-2689<\/a><\/strong>\/<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2019\/s2451\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">S-2451<\/a><\/strong>, isn&#8217;t being widely applied.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn&#8217;t have to be to meet the anti-gunners goals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nyagv.org\/nyagv-announces-statewide-education-program-on-new-erpo-red-flag-process\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Advocates want to discourage and reduce gun ownership by any means necessary<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/brian-kavanagh\/senate-democrats-force-committee-vote-common-sense-gun\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Legislators want to feel good about themselves and give the illusion they&#8217;re doing something<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-cuomo-joined-speaker-pelosi-signs-red-flag-gun-protection-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gov. Cuomo just wanted a media spectacle out of it<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Since all three of these were achieved in a sense &#8220;Red Flag&#8221; has been a big success.
