{"id":21335,"date":"2020-03-05T12:54:34","date_gmt":"2020-03-05T17:54:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=21335"},"modified":"2020-03-05T12:54:34","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T17:54:34","slug":"punishing-ortiz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=21335","title":{"rendered":"Punishing Ortiz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following-up to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=21286\">Assemblyman Ortiz&#8217;s recent gun control advocacy<\/a> comes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brooklynpaper.com\/working-families-party-endorses-progressive-against-ortiz-for-subnet-park-assembly-seat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The left-leaning <a href=\"https:\/\/workingfamilies.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Working Families Party<\/a> will endorse progressive candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marcelaforny.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marcela Mitaynes<\/a> in the upcoming race for Sunset Park\u2019s assembly seat \u2014 hoping to oust <a href=\"https:\/\/nyassembly.gov\/mem\/Felix-W-Ortiz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">F\u00e9lix Ortiz<\/a>, who had held the post for that past 25 years, the political organization exclusively told Brooklyn Paper &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As with most other urban races the only way to have an impact, and punish Ortiz for pushing gun control, is to be involved in the Democrat primary.\u00a0 Registered Dems out number Republicans ~9 to 1 in the district so whomever wins the primary will almost certainly win the general in November.\u00a0 Running a <em>Vote against Ortiz<\/em> campaign, either by not showing up to support him, voting for Mitaynes or writing in another name, will at the very least cost him a lot of money trying to fend off his challenger.\u00a0 Keeping his seat is all he cares about.\u00a0 If promoting gun control forces him to put more time and effort into doing that, Ortiz may rethink whether or not is is worth it pushing the issue.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D21335&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
