{"id":2073,"date":"2010-08-10T14:40:26","date_gmt":"2010-08-10T18:40:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=2073"},"modified":"2010-08-10T14:40:26","modified_gmt":"2010-08-10T18:40:26","slug":"taxpayers-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=2073","title":{"rendered":"Taxpayers party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It appears the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paladinoforthepeople.com\" target=\"_blank\">Paladino<\/a> people \u00a0have <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.democratandchronicle.com\/voteup\/2010\/08\/10\/paladino-set-to-torpedo-conservative-party-with-\u2018taxpayers\u2019-line\/\" target=\"_blank\">obtained enough signatures<\/a> to create a &#8220;Taxpayers&#8221; party line ensuring that one way or another Carl Paladino will be on the November ballot. \u00a0Right now I don&#8217;t believe Paladino has enough support to take the GOP line from <a href=\"http:\/\/lazio.com\" target=\"_blank\">Rick Lazio<\/a>, but Lazio has nowhere to go but down. \u00a0People do <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span> like him and his support among the GOP has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buffalonews.com\/city\/capital-connection\/albany\/article90696.ece\" target=\"_blank\">faltering<\/a>. \u00a0I can see him losing next month.<\/p>\n<p>Getting back to the &#8220;Taxpayers&#8221; ticket:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; The line, known as the \u201cTaxpayers\u201d party, is aimed at ending the supremacy of the venerable <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpnys.org\" target=\"_blank\">Conservative Party<\/a>, which has been a must-have line for any successful statewide Republican in New York for decades &#8230; [Michael] Long dismissed Paladino\u2019s campaign aimed at ending the party\u2019s influence. \u201cI think that\u2019s a very sad commentary on a person if he really believes in the future of New York,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Conservative Party is not an overnight party. We\u2019ve been around 48 years.\u201d &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Knocking out the CP would be a blessing. \u00a0They have long (pun intended) since abandoned principles, especially on the Second Amendment. \u00a0That isn&#8217;t sitting well with all CP members as Erie Co. chairman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lorigoforgovernor.com\" target=\"_blank\">Ralph Lorgio<\/a> is challenging Lazio for that line too, although he does not have the money Paladino has at his disposal.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D2073&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
