{"id":20722,"date":"2019-12-08T11:44:27","date_gmt":"2019-12-08T16:44:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=20722"},"modified":"2019-12-08T11:44:27","modified_gmt":"2019-12-08T16:44:27","slug":"its-nerf-or-nothin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=20722","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s Nerf or Nothin&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every year around this time a bunch of nanny-state busybodies try to suck the joy out of the holidays by releasing a list of toys they believe should not be sold to children.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochesterfirst.com\/news\/state-consumer-group-asking-hasbros-to-stop-making-assault-style-toy-weapons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">This year is no exception<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The <a href=\"https:\/\/consumerfed.org\/empire-state-consumer-association\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Empire State Consumer Project<\/a> has written a letter to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hasbro.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hasbro<\/a> board of directors, calling for them to remove assault-style toy weapons from their product line &#8230; The <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.hasbro.com\/en-us\/product\/nerf-ultra-one-motorized-blaster-high-capacity-drum-25-official-nerf-ultra-darts-the-farthest-flying-nerf-darts:D65B1AB5-782E-49F7-87BC-32F3D722116D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nerf Ultra One<\/a> and other nerf machine guns are the target of a letter from the Empire State Consumer Project. Director Carol Chittenden says the toys set a bad example for children. \u201cIt\u2019s a matter of this being a very vulnerable consumer group. Children buy what they see and we\u2019re not sure this is driven by market demand for assault weapon toys by children or the industry creating the demand,\u201d said Carol Chittenden, director of the Empire State Consumer Project &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.hasbro.com\/en-us\/product\/nerf-ultra-one-motorized-blaster-high-capacity-drum-25-official-nerf-ultra-darts-the-farthest-flying-nerf-darts:D65B1AB5-782E-49F7-87BC-32F3D722116D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nerf Ultra One<\/a> looks kinda like a <a href=\"https:\/\/guns.fandom.com\/wiki\/Pancor_Jackhammer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pancor Jackhammer<\/a> with a 25 round drum mag.\u00a0 It&#8217;s fucking awesome.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ispot.tv\/share\/Zdnh\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"453\" height=\"295\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Mary Lagana has seen the Hasbro commercial and agrees it is misleading. \u201cIt\u2019s a little family sitting around looking at gifts and then grandma comes through and she has one of these big weapon kinds of things,\u201d said Mary Lou Lagana, a Fairport resident &#8230; other shoppers think nerf guns like the nerf ultra one are too violent for children. \u201cActually kinda shocking to see that whole kinda round of bullets like on the gun itself. I would definitely not buy it wouldn\u2019t recommend it. I think there are so many other toys and images that we could be introducing our kids to,\u201d said Lisa Lagana, a Rochester resident. \u201cThere\u2019s too much violence in our world, especially gun violence in the United States.
