{"id":19041,"date":"2019-05-08T17:58:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-08T21:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=19041"},"modified":"2019-05-08T17:58:00","modified_gmt":"2019-05-08T21:58:00","slug":"nyc-city-council-on-ghost-guns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=19041","title":{"rendered":"NYC City Council on &#8220;ghost&#8221; guns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A typical tactic of the Left is to make up some phony issue, in this case &#8220;ghost&#8221; guns, get some of their elected supporters at the local level to pass legislation and\/or memorializing resolutions which addresses the &#8220;problem&#8221;, and use this a mechanism to push for state and\/or federal action on similar bills.<\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BrianKavanaghNY\/status\/1125819649801768960\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">astroturf advocating in Albany this week for even more gun control<\/a>, I knew the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.council.nyc.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clown Council<\/a> was going to chime in on this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/new-york\/nyc-crime\/ny-ghost-gun-legislation-20190507-5bekc4fa2rdnzdon3tl4bi2hau-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">They did not disappoint<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;It will be a crime to own parts that can be used to forge homemade untraceable guns, under new legislation two City Council members are introducing Wednesday, the Daily News has learned. The bootleg weapons \u2014 which do not have serial numbers \u2014 making them impossible to trace, are commonly referred to as \u201cghost guns\u201d &#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.helenrosenthal.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">City Councilwoman Helen Rosenthal (D-Manhattan)<\/a> said it is \u201cunnerving\u201d that anyone with an internet connection and enough technical expertise can make a customized gun at home &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/idaneekmiller\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daneek Miller (D-Queens)<\/a>, who co-sponsored the bills with Rosenthal, said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/site\/nypd\/index.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NYPD<\/a> has told him police have recovered some ghost guns but did not have a specific number &#8230; Miller thinks the bill is a chance to make a statement that might lead to federal legislation down the line. \u201cNew York City should be a leader, getting ahead of this,\u201d Rosenthal said &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bill numbers are <a href=\"https:\/\/legistar.council.nyc.gov\/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=3940954&amp;GUID=A29C7D6A-CB1D-40DE-8C8D-8109A3D397E2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>RES 866-2019<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/legistar.council.nyc.gov\/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=3940943&amp;GUID=B84283E0-57FB-40E4-B288-E98F1D455BD8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>INT 1548-2019<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Resolution calls upon Congress to enact <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/115th-congress\/house-bill\/7115\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">H.R.7115<\/a><\/strong> from the 2017-18 session.
