{"id":18969,"date":"2019-04-30T13:50:36","date_gmt":"2019-04-30T17:50:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=18969"},"modified":"2019-04-30T13:50:36","modified_gmt":"2019-04-30T17:50:36","slug":"nra-meeting-aftermath","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=18969","title":{"rendered":"NRA meeting aftermath"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nraam.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NRA&#8217;s Annual Meeting<\/a> is over.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/am-joy\/watch\/oliver-north-steps-down-as-nra-president-1511575107574\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ollie North is out as President<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2019\/apr\/29\/carolyn-meadows-replace-oliver-north-new-nra-presi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carolyn Meadows was voted by the Board to take over<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2019\/04\/29\/718382855\/wayne-lapierre-re-elected-as-nra-leader-amid-internal-turmoil-and-outside-probe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne LaPierre and key executives appear to have survived<\/a> (for now). <a href=\"https:\/\/gunculture2point0.wordpress.com\/2019\/04\/29\/documenting-the-2019-nra-revolt-at-indy-against-current-nra-leadership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The &#8220;No Confidence&#8221; resolution against him<\/a> looks to be <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JeffKnox\/status\/1122995720217288705\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">buried in committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some thoughts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NRA looks to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2019\/4\/30\/18510946\/nra-finances-lapierre-north-accusations-corruption\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">real problems with cronyism and corruption<\/a> at the executive level that cannot be swept under the rug.<\/li>\n<li>The vast majority of the Board are useless and should resign.\u00a0 They either knew or should have known about these problems and made an effort to correct them.<\/li>\n<li>Nothing the Board did this weekend is going to help the NRA with respect to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2019\/04\/29\/718394056\/new-york-attorney-general-launches-investigation-into-nra-financial-dealings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tish James&#8217; investigation<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Carolyn Meadows is unfit to be President.\u00a0 She is way to old and her performance at the Member&#8217;s Meeting shows it.\u00a0 No way she will actually be the one in charge.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2019\/04\/29\/trump-nra-investigations-1291447\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trump standing up for the NRA<\/a> should be a message all candidates, especially Republicans, that being pro-gun is mainstream and beneficial to their campaigns.<\/li>\n<li>If serious reform does not happen the membership will revolt.\u00a0 Not like the 70s as that was ideological.\u00a0 This would be broad-based centering around having competent executives running the NRA as a business and having independent Directors free of interest conflicts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D18969&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden;  width:150px; height:21px;\" allowTransparency=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/li><li class=\"twtr\" style=\"width:90px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=18969\">&nbsp;<\/a><script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=\/^http:\/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+':\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');<\/script><\/li><li class=\"gplus\" style=\"width:68px\"><div class=\"g-plusone\" data-size=\"medium\" data-href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=18969\"><\/div><\/li><li class=\"ssb_linkedin\" style=\"width:64px\"><script src=\"\/\/platform.linkedin.com\/in.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\">lang: en_US<\/script><script type=\"IN\/Share\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=18969\" data-counter=\"right\"><\/script><\/li><\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NRA&#8217;s Annual Meeting is over.
