{"id":1892,"date":"2010-07-12T13:41:27","date_gmt":"2010-07-12T17:41:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=1892"},"modified":"2010-07-12T13:45:45","modified_gmt":"2010-07-12T17:45:45","slug":"not-a-conservative-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=1892","title":{"rendered":"Not a conservative issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politicsdaily.com\/2010\/07\/12\/redstate-vs-nra-feud-goes-public\/\" target=\"_blank\">conservatives are upset<\/a> over the possibility that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nraila.org\" target=\"_blank\">NRA<\/a> may endorse <a href=\"http:\/\/reid.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Reid<\/a> for re-election. \u00a0Over at Red State\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.redstate.com\/erick\/2010\/06\/14\/yet-again-the-nra-sells-out-to-democrats\/\" target=\"_blank\">Erick Erickson whines<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; \u00a0these days I cringe when I see good conservatives with their lifetime member sticker from the NRA on the back of their cars &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This may come as a shock to some, but the NRA is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span> a conservative group nor do conservatives own the gun rights issue. \u00a0This is especially true in New York where top ticket candidates <a href=\"http:\/\/lazio.com\" target=\"_blank\">Rick Lazio<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dandonovan.org\" target=\"_blank\">Dan Donovan<\/a>, both of whom have been endorsed by the state <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpnys.org\" target=\"_blank\">Conservative Party<\/a>, are flaming antigunners. \u00a0I know Democrat party functionaries who are members of NRA and who support liberal candidates. \u00a0They are as much a part of the NRA family as the next guy and ought to be treated as such.<\/p>\n<p>The NRA is a single issue advocacy group. \u00a0Like it or not Harry Reid has been generally supportive of gun rights during his tenure in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Senate<\/a>. \u00a0I would not personally endorse him as I think he&#8217;s going to lose badly, but if NRA does go with him as a Patron Life Member I&#8217;m not going to get bent out of shape over it.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D1892&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
