{"id":18699,"date":"2019-03-12T18:52:04","date_gmt":"2019-03-12T22:52:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=18699"},"modified":"2019-03-12T18:52:04","modified_gmt":"2019-03-12T22:52:04","slug":"not-a-left-right-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=18699","title":{"rendered":"Not a left-right issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I generally ignore stuff like this, but <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jeffknox\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeff Knox<\/a>&#8216;s comment in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/03\/11\/us\/nra-video-streaming-nratv.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this New York Times article<\/a> is spot-on:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Last September, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nra.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Rifle Association\u2019s<\/a> famously combative spokeswoman, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DLoesch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dana Loesch<\/a>, provoked widespread outrage when she took to the gun group\u2019s streaming service to mock ethnic diversity on the popular children\u2019s program \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomasandfriends.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thomas &amp; Friends<\/a>,\u201d portraying the show\u2019s talking trains in Ku Klux Klan hoods. Now, growing unease over the site\u2019s inflammatory rhetoric, and whether it has strayed too far from the N.R.A.\u2019s core gun-rights mission, has put its future in doubt &#8230; Ms. Loesch has emerged as NRATV\u2019s most visible host, deriding gun-control advocates as \u201ctragedy-dry-humping whores\u201d and vowing to combat the left with what she called the \u201cclenched fist of truth\u201d &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/stinchfield1776\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grant Stinchfield<\/a>, a host, claimed that \u201call radicalized terrorists are Muslims,\u201d overlooking mass shooters like Dylann Roof, who killed nine black churchgoers in Charleston, S.C., in 2015. Such far-ranging commentary has raised questions among some N.R.A. members about the scope of the organization\u2019s messaging. \u201cThe N.R.A. shouldn\u2019t be putting this out,\u201d said Jeff Knox, an N.R.A. member who runs the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nealknox.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Firearms Coalition<\/a>, a smaller advocacy organization. \u201cIt\u2019s not gun rights; it\u2019s red meat for the hard right.\u201d &#8230; \u201cWhy are we getting so involved in left-right politics instead of sticking close to our issue, the Second Amendment?\u201d the younger Mr. Knox asked&#8230;.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jeff is correct.<\/p>\n<p>One of the best things NRA did was hiring <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CamEdwards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cam Edwards<\/a> to host <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nratv.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NRA News<\/a>.\u00a0 He presents a positive face of the organization to the public.\u00a0 Loesch and Stinchfield do the exact opposite.\u00a0 They are an embarrassment.\u00a0 I am a big supporter of <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2TzV4GQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">confrontational politics<\/a>, but that is not synonymous with being an asshole.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D18699&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
