{"id":18116,"date":"2018-11-27T11:37:19","date_gmt":"2018-11-27T16:37:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=18116"},"modified":"2018-11-27T11:37:19","modified_gmt":"2018-11-27T16:37:19","slug":"new-senate-leadership-and-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=18116","title":{"rendered":"New Senate leadership and agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/andrea-stewart-cousins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrea Stewart-Cousins<\/a> has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wrvo.org\/post\/ny-senators-elect-first-african-american-woman-be-majority-leader\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">elected as the new Senate Majority Leader<\/a> for the 2019-20 session.<\/p>\n<p>Her agenda:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Stewart-Cousins said among the top priorities for the <a href=\"https:\/\/nydems.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate Democrats<\/a> will be enacting the Reproductive Health Act, which would codify the abortion rights in the <a href=\"http:\/\/landmarkcases.org\/en\/landmark\/cases\/roe_v_wade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade<\/a> into New York law, <strong>strengthening gun control laws<\/strong> and instituting early voting in New York &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It is reasonable to assume that the gun control agenda will include the laundry list of items the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyassembly.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Assembly<\/a> approved in years past including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsday.com\/long-island\/politics\/cuomo-gun-safety-1.19127966\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gov.
