Circuit Court Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh<\/a> as his choice for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SCOTUS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He appears solid on gun rights as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/politics\/la-na-pol-brett-kavanaugh-supreme-court-20180709-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the L.A. Times reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; [Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh] will move the high court to the right on &#8230; gun rights &#8230; Kavanaugh appears to support broader gun rights under the 2nd Amendment. In 2011, he filed a 52-page dissent when the appeals court, by a 2-1 vote, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-guns-ban\/appeals-court-upholds-dc-semi-automatic-rifle-ban-idUSTRE7936RW20111004\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upheld a District of Columbia ordinance<\/a> that prohibited semiautomatic rifles and magazines holding more than 10 rounds &#8230; But Kavanaugh said the ban on semiautomatic rifles was unconstitutional because the weapons are in common use in this country. \u201cAs one who was born here, grew up in this community in the late 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, and has lived and worked in this area almost all of his life, I am acutely aware of the gun, drug and gang violence that has plagued all of us\u2026. He thinks the 2nd Amend says that weapons of war, like AR-15s, belong on our streets. That\u2019s not what Scalia wrote. For the NRA, this is just desserts for a $30+ million contribution to Pres. He believes assault weapon bans are unconstitutional, a position way out of the judicial mainstream, far to the right of even late Justice Scalia.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Chris Murphy (@ChrisMurphyCT) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChrisMurphyCT\/status\/1016490627742171137?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 10, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andrewcuomo.com\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Governor Cuomo<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=16931\">who had already been attacking Republicans over his &#8220;red flag&#8221; proposal<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nystateofpolitics.com\/2018\/07\/cuomo-says-hell-call-out-senate-gop-by-name-on-rha\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">started attacking them over abortion<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Gov. Andrew Cuomo in a gaggle with reporters on Monday in Brooklyn said he plans to call out individual Republicans in the state Senate over the issue of abortion rights in New York.  \u201cI\u2019m going to call them all out by name \u2014 all out by name,\u201d Cuomo said.  Cuomo\u2019s targeting of individual GOP lawmakers is part of a years-long break for him and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenategop.net\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Republican conference<\/a>. The relationship was once a productive one for the governor and the GOP lawmakers who controlled <a href=\"http:\/\/\/www.nysenatge.gov\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the chamber<\/a> &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This relationship was doomed from the start as Republicans never brought anything to the table except themselves.
