{"id":16556,"date":"2018-05-01T10:03:36","date_gmt":"2018-05-01T14:03:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=16556"},"modified":"2018-05-01T10:03:36","modified_gmt":"2018-05-01T14:03:36","slug":"rats-are-leaving-the-sinking-ship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=16556","title":{"rendered":"Rats are leaving the sinking ship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For years I have said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenategop.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Republican<\/a> control of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Senate<\/a> cannot continue.\u00a0 Yet they still have managed to hang on.\u00a0 I think we have finally reached the point where they know that they will not have the majority come 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Last week there was this in the Poughkeepise Journal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poughkeepsiejournal.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2018\/04\/27\/john-bonacic-wont-seek-re-election\/557982002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;3 NY Senate Republicans drop re-election bids in 3 days&#8221;<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/john-j-bonacic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Sen. John Bonacic<\/a>, a Republican who has represented the Hudson Valley in the Legislature for nearly three decades, will not seek re-election this fall &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/kathleen-marchione\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sen. Kathy Marchione, R-Halfmoon, Saratoga County<\/a>, announced Wednesday she wouldn&#8217;t run in November, citing a desire to spent more time with her family. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/john-defrancisco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate Deputy Majority Leader John DeFrancisco, R-DeWitt, Onondaga County<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/auburnpub.com\/blogs\/eye_on_ny\/longtime-state-sen-john-defrancisco-will-not-run-for-re\/article_950e7090-4973-11e8-89e5-df26ea430605.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told the Auburn Citizen<\/a> he too wouldn&#8217;t seek re-election &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This week the Post reports, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2018\/04\/30\/two-more-gop-state-senators-may-bow-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Two more GOP state senators may bow out&#8221;<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Long Island <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/thomas-d-croci\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sen. Tom Croci<\/a> and Hudson Valley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/william-j-larkin-jr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sen. Bill Larkin<\/a> both admitted they\u2019re considering giving up their seats &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Larkin is older than dirt and already has one foot in the ground so his leaving would be understandable.
