Assemblywoman Jo Anne Simon<\/a> has introduced legislation to prohibit gun raffles<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“… \u201cIt boggles my mind that anyone would think this was a good thing to raffle off,\u201d Simon said …”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The key thing here is that it boggles her<\/span> mind, not those of normal, rational thinking adults.\u00a0 Raffles with gun prizes are common.\u00a0 I’m going to a shoot this weekend<\/a> that is having one.<\/p>\n

She doesn’t even give a reason for this in the justification statement of the bill jacket:<\/p>\n

“Currently in New York State it is legal to raffle off a firearm in a game of chance. Many times games such as these are open to all individuals regardless of age. Firearms should not be raffled off in this manner. Firearm related violence is a significant public health and safety problem and weapons should not be given away in games of chance.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Assembly<\/a> bill is A-10091<\/strong><\/a>. There is no Senate<\/a> companion.<\/p>\n
