It would raise money to help pay for armed guards at schools, mental health counseling and security cameras at schools. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/brad-hoylman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sen. Brad Hoylman<\/a>, a Democrat from Manhattan, called the bill \u201cmeaningless.\u201d \u201cIt is so harebrained to think that we are actually attempting to address the serious issue of gun violence with a new license plate,\u201d Hoylman said. \u201cI am compelled to vote no.\u201d &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hoylman is right.\u00a0 The license plate idea is dumb.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; The bill\u2019s sponsor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/james-tedisco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Republican Sen. Jim Tedisco<\/a> from Schenectady, was angered by the remarks. He accused Democrats of having a double standard. He said the Democrats do not object to armed guards at the State Capitol, yet some Democrats voted against the school safety enhancement measures. \u201cHypocrites!
