{"id":16126,"date":"2018-02-28T16:10:27","date_gmt":"2018-02-28T21:10:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=16126"},"modified":"2018-02-28T16:10:27","modified_gmt":"2018-02-28T21:10:27","slug":"theyre-not-serious","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=16126","title":{"rendered":"They&#8217;re not serious"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/news\/article\/Senate-Dems-force-vote-on-gun-safety-measures-12716634.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">political theater<\/a> today in Albany:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The state <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorksenatedems.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate&#8217;s Democratic Conference<\/a> fell short in an attempt Wednesday to force a vote in their chamber on a series of gun-safety bills intended to augment the 2013 SAFE Act &#8230; [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/andrea-stewart-cousins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins<\/a>]\u00a0 and 20 members of her conference subsequently entered the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate<\/a> chamber and began pushing their legislation on the floor in a series of what are known as hostile amendments &#8211; attaching their legislation to an unrelated bill on organ donations. But when the Democrats asked for a vote by a show of hands, however, they fell short \u2014 even with eight votes of support from members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Independent-Democratic-Conference-NY-Senate-186564838038472\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Independent Democratic Conference<\/a> \u2014 as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenategop.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Republicans in control of the chamber<\/a> declined to support the measures &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I knew this was coming.\u00a0 I also knew it was going to fail because the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Governor<\/a> wasn&#8217;t behind it:<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">On a conference call, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NYGovCuomo?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@NYGovCuomo<\/a> is less than enthused bythe push by some in his own party to further strengthen NY\u2019s gun control laws. Cuomo seems content with his 2013 law, the SAFE Act. Says sure, he could support it.
