Kevin Parker, D-Brooklyn<\/a>, said incidents of gun violence in Brooklyn are a daily occurrence, &#8220;and something that is not getting better over time.&#8221; &#8220;This conference supports the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/wex\/second_amendment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Second Amendment<\/a>,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We understand that there is a long tradition of hunting and shooting &#8230; but we certainly understand the morale obligation that we have as a Democratic conference to address the needs of safety.&#8221; &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The fact that &#8220;gun violence&#8221; is a daily occurrence in Brooklyn in spite of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-cuomo-signs-ny-safe-act-rochester\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Governor Cuomo&#8217;s so-called SAFE Act<\/a> would be an indication to a normal, rational person that such policies do not work.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, Parker will never admit that any more than he would acknowledge the <a href=\"https:\/\/cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com\/2011\/03\/21\/state-senator-receives-3-years-probation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">irony of him talking about violence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the list of bills they are pushing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/S3355\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>S-3355<\/strong><\/a>, Enacts the &#8220;Children&#8217;s Weapon Accident Prevention Act&#8221;. Companion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/A1990\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>A-1990<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/S4363\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>S-4363<\/strong><\/a>, Creates the &#8220;New York State Firearms Violence Research Institute.&#8221; Companion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/A2977\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>A-2977<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/S5808\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>S-5808A<\/strong><\/a>, Enacts the &#8220;Effective Background Check Act of 2018.&#8221; Companion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/A9068\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>A-9068<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/S5829\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>S-5829<\/strong><\/a>, Establishes certain crimes relating to the criminal possession or manufacture of an undetectable firearm, rifle, or shotgun. Companion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/A914\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>A-914<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/S5922\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>S-5922<\/strong><\/a>, Provides for compensation for injury or death caused by the negligent entrustment of a firearm.
