Andrew Cuomo<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysdacc.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Assembly<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorksenatedems.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate Democrats<\/a> and 11 of 29 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenategop.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Republicans in the state Senate<\/a> \u2014 the majority from downstate &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Let&#8217;s be clear on this: &#8220;Upstate&#8221; Republicans are as much responsible for passage of SAFE as those from Long Island.\u00a0 Exactly <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">two<\/span> Republicans stood up on the floor to voice their opposition: <a href=\"http:\/\/blackstonetexas.com\/team\/senator-greg-ball\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greg Ball<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/kathleen-marchione\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kathy Marchione<\/a>.\u00a0 The rest from &#8220;upstate&#8221; sat stone silent during the voting.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/catharine-young\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Sen. Catharine Young, R-Olean<\/a>, was one of the Republicans to vote against the legislation, and said she would continue against it &#8230; \u201cWhile, unfortunately, the Democrats in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyassembly.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York State Assembly<\/a> have prevented repeal legislation I sponsored that has passed the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate<\/a>, we have achieved an important victory in successfully blocking the implementation of the ammunition database,\u201d Young said. \u201cWe\u2019ve kept funds for the registry out of the state budget and will fight to do so again this year &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bullshit.\u00a0 The legislature cannot defund SAFE though the budget. We have been through this before (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14297\">#1<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=12894\">#2<\/a>). Senator Young is flat out lying.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; \u201cI am also helping to lead efforts to try to secure a delay in the pistol recertification process, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/S7343\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">co-sponsoring legislation<\/a> that would change the deadline from Jan. 31 to March 31,\u201d she added &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Big. Fucking.
