Felder, D-Brooklyn<\/a>, first called for armed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/nypd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYPD<\/a> officers to be placed at city schools after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/10\/31\/nyregion\/police-shooting-lower-manhattan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Halloween terror attack in New York City<\/a> &#8230; That attacker was eventually apprehended by a police officer who happened to be nearby and according to Felder, proves that his legislation, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/S6798\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S.6798<\/a><\/strong>, must be passed to ensure the safety of New York City\u2019s students. This week, Felder again called on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyassembly.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Assembly<\/a> to pass their own version of his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate<\/a> bill &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There is no companion bill in the Assembly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/legislativegazette.com\/letter-do-ny-gun-laws-keep-the-public-safe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Time for me to stir the pot<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;After reading of Senator Felder\u2019s call for armed security at public schools following the Halloween terror attack I have a question for the Senator: Don\u2019t you think it\u2019s time to admit that New York\u2019s citizen disarmament laws <a href=\"http:\/\/www.niagarafallsreporter.com\/column357.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">do not keep the public safe<\/a>?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>However good your intentions, the NYPD does not have the ability, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/06\/28\/politics\/justices-rule-police-do-not-have-a-constitutional-duty-to-protect.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nor in fact do they have any legal responsibility<\/a>, to protect the public either from street criminals or Islamic terrorists. The only one responsible for a person\u2019s safety is the individual themselves. That is the reason 42 states covering 75 percent of the population have right-to-carry firearms for personal protection laws. No rational argument can be made for New York to be excluded from this.
