{"id":1538,"date":"2010-05-22T13:08:41","date_gmt":"2010-05-22T17:08:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=1538"},"modified":"2010-05-22T13:08:41","modified_gmt":"2010-05-22T17:08:41","slug":"cuomo-announces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=1538","title":{"rendered":"Cuomo announces"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.andrewcuomo.com\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Cuomo<\/a> formally <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/05\/23\/nyregion\/23cuomo.html\" target=\"_blank\">announced his campaign<\/a> for governor today. \u00a0He has an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=%22andrew+cuomo%22+%22gun+control%22\" target=\"_blank\">extensive antigun record<\/a> which can be summed up by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysun.com\/new-york\/cuomo-stands-alone-on-2nd-amendment\/69412\/\" target=\"_blank\">this old post<\/a> at the New York Sun:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;In arguing that the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution\" target=\"_blank\">Second Amendment<\/a> case now before the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Supreme Court<\/a> shouldn&#8217;t have any bearing on state gun control laws, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ag.ny.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Attorney General Cuomo<\/a> is finding himself largely alone among state attorneys general. \u00a0Mr. Cuomo filed a brief, signed onto by only four other states and Puerto Rico, to the federal high court last week in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotuswiki.com\/index.php?title=DC_v._Heller\" target=\"_blank\">District of Columbia v. Heller<\/a> &#8230; Mr. Cuomo&#8217;s brief is, in effect, an effort to limit any damage to the relatively <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sullivan_Act\" target=\"_blank\">strict handgun regulations in New York<\/a> and some other states that might result from a Supreme Court decision favoring private gun ownership. \u00a0The brief argues that <strong>the Second Amendment does not limit the power of state governments to regulate gun ownership<\/strong> &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D1538&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
