{"id":14877,"date":"2017-08-01T11:22:42","date_gmt":"2017-08-01T15:22:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14877"},"modified":"2017-08-01T11:22:42","modified_gmt":"2017-08-01T15:22:42","slug":"two-more-names","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14877","title":{"rendered":"Two more names"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two more names have come up as possible challengers for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Governor Cuomo<\/a> next year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/politics\/lovett-cuomo-faces-2018-challenge-syracuse-mayor-article-1.3370622\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">First is Democrat Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stephanie_Miner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stephanie Miner<\/a>], who is term-limited out of her current office at the end of the year, said she\u2019s been approached by different people about running for governor, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.house.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Congress<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state Senate<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m taking everybody\u2019s phone calls,\u201d she said. The inquiries to run against Cuomo as a progressive alternative have come from a mix of the \u201cprofessional left, some advocates, consultants and just the public in general,\u201d Miner said &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I believe she would be a stronger challenger to Cuomo than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14858\">Terry Gipson would be<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/auburnpub.com\/blogs\/eye_on_ny\/defrancisco-no-in-ny-senate-exploring-run-for-governor-in\/article_95c1205c-766d-11e7-ab20-fb09df7904ed.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Next is Republican Senator John DeFrancisco<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senators\/john-defrancisco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[Senator John DeFrancisco]<\/a>, said in an interview Friday that he began traveling around the state to attend Republican events and float his name as a potential gubernatorial candidate &#8230;\u00a0&#8220;I think it&#8217;s just prudent to go around and see what level of support there is,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And if there is, then I&#8217;ll seriously consider it.&#8221; &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>His level of supports peaks at about the same as a generic <em>Anybody But Cuomo<\/em> candidate.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; DeFrancisco said he was &#8220;instrumental&#8221; in helping <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Pataki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[George] Pataki<\/a> in central New York &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I would not bring this up in an interview.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; &#8220;Quite frankly, the rallying cry was not a great movement for George Pataki but the rallying cry was &#8216;Anybody but Cuomo,'&#8221; DeFrancisco recalled. &#8220;I just think that&#8217;s the same situation we&#8217;re in now &#8230;&#8221;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s the way he&#8217;s selling himself?\u00a0 That is just as bad as the Democrat&#8217;s, <em>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/blog-briefing-room\/news\/340732-dems-try-new-slogan-have-you-seen-the-other-guys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I mean, have you seen the other guys?<\/a>&#8220;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>People want to vote <strong>for<\/strong> someone, not just against an incumbent.\u00a0 Does DeFrancisco seriously believe this is going to motivate people to get behind him?<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D14877&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden;  width:150px; height:21px;\" allowTransparency=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/li><li class=\"twtr\" style=\"width:90px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14877\">&nbsp;<\/a><script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=\/^http:\/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+':\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');<\/script><\/li><li class=\"gplus\" style=\"width:68px\"><div class=\"g-plusone\" data-size=\"medium\" data-href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14877\"><\/div><\/li><li class=\"ssb_linkedin\" style=\"width:64px\"><script src=\"\/\/platform.linkedin.com\/in.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\">lang: en_US<\/script><script type=\"IN\/Share\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14877\" data-counter=\"right\"><\/script><\/li><\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two more names have come up as possible challengers for Governor Cuomo next year.
