{"id":14749,"date":"2017-07-17T15:16:47","date_gmt":"2017-07-17T19:16:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14749"},"modified":"2017-07-18T15:23:55","modified_gmt":"2017-07-18T19:23:55","slug":"made-in-new-york-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14749","title":{"rendered":"Made in New York City?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kimberamerica.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kimber<\/a> announced they will produce a limited run of <em>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kimberamerica.com\/royal-ii-texas-edition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Royal II (Texas Edition)<\/a>&#8220;<\/em> 1911 pistols in .45 ACP.\u00a0 The guns will feature a deep blue finish with engraving on the slide and mainspring, match grade components, special serial numbers and ivory grips with the Texas flag and state motto on them.\u00a0 They are nice looking guns sure to appeal to Texans.<\/p>\n<p>What I find most amusing is they are made in New York.\u00a0 Like the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/qeilxKluTCU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">old Pace Picante commercials<\/a>, <em>&#8220;This stuff&#8217;s made in New York City?!&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0 Actually a few miles north in Yonkers, but that is close enough.\u00a0 The company should hire some marketing genius to produce advertisements which play off those commercials.\u00a0 A bunch of guys sitting around a fire eating, passing around a bottle of salsa with a conversation that goes like this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Cowboy 1: Can I see your new gun?<\/p>\n<p>Cowboy 2: Sure.<\/p>\n<p>Cowboy 1: A Kimber Texas Edition.\u00a0 That thing is made in New York?!<\/p>\n<p>Cowboy 2: Yes, yes it is.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>New York is even helping Kimber to manufacture these guns.\u00a0 A few years back they received <a href=\"http:\/\/www.motherjones.com\/politics\/2016\/01\/gun-manufacturers-subsidies-southern-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a $700,000 state grant<\/a> to expand their Yonkers plant along with local tax credits.<\/p>\n<p>Kimber makes a number of colorful 1911s that I would not have thought would be big sellers, but apparently they are.\u00a0 They include brushed gold\/copper, <a href=\"https:\/\/grabagun.com\/kimber-9mm-ultra-bel-air-ii.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">baby blue<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/grabagun.com\/kimber-9mm-solo-sapphire-pistol.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">electric blue<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/grabagun.com\/kimber-9mm-amethyst-ultra-ii.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">purple<\/a>.\u00a0 This too is amusing considering then <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/06\/06\/nyregion\/06bloomberg.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayor Bloomberg&#8217;s efforts<\/a> to ban handguns colored anything other than blue\/black or silver.\u00a0 Thankfully that issue appears to have gone away after a lawsuit successfully challenged <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/new-york\/nassau-bill-shoot-neon-colored-guns-article-1.288540\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Nassau county prohibition<\/a> on brightly colored handguns on the basis of state law preempting such action.<\/p>\n<p>You can purchase Kimber products online at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.grabagun.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grab A Gun<\/a><\/strong> for shipment to a local dealer.\u00a0 They even offer <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/grabagun.com\/layaway\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a financing program<\/a><\/strong> for gun purchases.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D14749&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
