{"id":14734,"date":"2017-07-08T10:02:40","date_gmt":"2017-07-08T14:02:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14734"},"modified":"2017-07-08T10:02:40","modified_gmt":"2017-07-08T14:02:40","slug":"republican-challenger-for-collins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14734","title":{"rendered":"Republican challenger for Collins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A slew of potential Democrats have announced their intentions to challenge upstate Republican Congressmen.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latfor.state.ny.us\/maps\/2012c\/CD_map_rep_27.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CD-27<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/chriscollins.house.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rep. Chris Collins <\/a>has a Republican challenger <a href=\"http:\/\/gsa.buffalo.edu\/ubgha\/graduate-students\/alumni\/frank-c-smierciak-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frank C. Smierciak II<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailynewsonline.com\/bdn01\/young-gun-looks-to-challenge-collins-in-2018-for-ny-27-20170707\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily News<\/a> he&#8217;s big on guns:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Well I think, first off, the (NY SAFE Act) needs to be repealed completely. Same with the pistol permitting process. I believe strongly in constitutional carry nationwide, and that\u2019s because it\u2019s your right to own whatever firearm you want, to have one for protection \u2014 personal protection, for home defense, whatever you want to have it for &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To be fair, Collins does co-sponsor <a href=\"http:\/\/thomas.loc.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>H.R.38<\/strong><\/a> which supports both licenses to carry and constitutional carry.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Well, Collins hasn\u2019t done all that much regarding the Second Amendment. He has voiced his support saying that the SAFE Act should be repealed but he hasn\u2019t really done much for that. In terms of pistol permitting, he has gotten behind the concealed carry reciprocity bill &#8230; T<\/em><em>he flaw with the concealed reciprocity bill is it has this little caveat in it that says states must recognize permits from other states as long as they allow their own residents to carry.
