{"id":14314,"date":"2017-04-07T12:34:01","date_gmt":"2017-04-07T16:34:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14314"},"modified":"2017-04-07T12:34:01","modified_gmt":"2017-04-07T16:34:01","slug":"justice-gorsuch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14314","title":{"rendered":"Justice Gorsuch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Senate<\/a> just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/04\/07\/us\/politics\/neil-gorsuch-supreme-court.html\" target=\"_blank\">confirmed Neil Gorsuch to SCOTUS<\/a> by a vote of 54-45.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcconnell.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Majority Leader Mitch McConnell<\/a> finally had enough of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schumer.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Charles Schumer&#8217;s<\/a> crap and eliminated the filibuster for judicial candidates.\u00a0 Considering the penchant for Republicans to preemptively surrender to Democrats this is a dramatic shift and hopefully a sign of good things to come.<\/p>\n<p>First, there have been repeated rumors of another <a href=\"http:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\" target=\"_blank\">SCOTUS<\/a> justice retiring this year.\u00a0 With longer any need to pander to Democrats we may get the opportunity to get another originalist justice on the court.<\/p>\n<p>Second, while the legislative filibuster remains intact, Democrats may think twice about blocking popular bills just for the sake of being obstructionists.
