{"id":14092,"date":"2017-03-02T12:40:12","date_gmt":"2017-03-02T17:40:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14092"},"modified":"2017-03-02T12:40:12","modified_gmt":"2017-03-02T17:40:12","slug":"political-theatre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=14092","title":{"rendered":"Political theatre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Legislation has been introduced to limit the SAFE Act to New York City:<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe title=\"THE POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL - Embed Player\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" marginheight=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" src=\/\/www.poughkeepsiejournal.com\/videos\/embed\/98601664\/?fullsite=true><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The bill <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/a6140\/\" target=\"_blank\">A-6140<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2017\/S879\" target=\"_blank\">S-879C<\/a> is going nowhere.<\/p>\n<p>First and foremost, it would require <a href=\"http:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Governor Cuomo<\/a> to sign it thereby admitting he was wrong.  That is <strong><u>never<\/u><\/strong> going to happen especially considering he still has delusions of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2017\/02\/andrew-cuomo-new-york-2020-235403\" target=\"_blank\">running for President in 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Second, the Republicans are treating guns as a partisan, ideological issue, not a civil right.  With Republicans and Conservatives making up ~25% of registered voters, and Democrats making up roughly 53%, they cannot pass legislation without buy-in from the Democrats.
