Exec."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With incumbent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edmangano.com\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Mangano<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longislandpress.com\/2017\/01\/29\/nassau-exec-candidates-line-up-amid-mangano-scandal\/\" target=\"_blank\">having problems<\/a>, Democrats are hoping to pick-up the Nassau County Executive&#8217;s seat this fall.<\/p>\n<p>So far, three names have surfaced:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nassaucountydems.com\" target=\"_blank\">Nassau Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs<\/a> is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longislandpress.com\/2017\/01\/30\/dems-tap-legis-laura-curran-for-nassau-exec-nominee-primary-expected\/\" target=\"_blank\">supporting<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/lcurran5\" target=\"_blank\">Legislator Laura Curran (D-Baldwin)<\/a>. \u00a0She supports a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsday.com\/long-island\/politics\/nassau-democratic-pols-want-guns-stored-in-vaults-1.11809640\" target=\"_blank\">New Yorkers Against Gun Violence\u00a0mandatory firearms storage proposal<\/a> for the county.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/nyassembly.gov\/mem\/Charles-D-Lavine\/\" target=\"_blank\">Assemblyman Charles Lavine<\/a> has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsday.com\/long-island\/politics\/assembly-leaders-back-charles-lavine-for-nassau-county-executive-1.13141409\" target=\"_blank\">the backing of the Assembly Democrat Leadership<\/a>. \u00a0Lavine has a long record of supporting antigun legislation in Albany.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nassaucountyny.gov\/Agencies\/comptroller\/\" target=\"_blank\">County Comptroller George Maragos<\/a>. Does not have a record on the issue that I&#8217;m aware of.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Assuming Mangano does not run for another term, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longislandpress.com\/2017\/01\/29\/nassau-exec-candidates-line-up-amid-mangano-scandal\/\" target=\"_blank\">possible Republican candidates<\/a>\u00a0include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jack_Martins\" target=\"_blank\">Former State Senator Jack Martins<\/a>. Voted for the SAFE Act and ran for Congress last year as the gun control candidate.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Councilman-Bruce-Blakeman-865134650216480\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hempstead Town Councilman Bruce Blakeman<\/a>. A perpetual candidate who has run several times for higher office and lost each time.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.donclavin.com\" target=\"_blank\">Hempstead Tax Receiver Donald Clavi<\/a>.
