{"id":13545,"date":"2016-10-08T16:06:19","date_gmt":"2016-10-08T20:06:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=13545"},"modified":"2016-10-08T16:06:19","modified_gmt":"2016-10-08T20:06:19","slug":"good-news-from-long-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=13545","title":{"rendered":"Good news from Long Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some good news from Long Island.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsday.com\/long-island\/politics\/zeldin-leads-throne-holst-in-1st-district-newsday-poll-shows-1.12422001\" target=\"_blank\">Latest polling<\/a> shows <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zeldinforcongress.com\" target=\"_blank\">Lee Zeldin<\/a> has a big lead over challenger <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annathrone-holst.com\" target=\"_blank\">Anna Throne-Holst<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) holds a 15-pecentage-point lead over Democratic challenger and former Southhampton Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latfor.state.ny.us\/maps\/2012c\/CD_map_rep_01.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">1st Congressional District<\/a> race, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.siena.edu\/news-events\/article\/zeldin-leads-throne-holst-by-15-points-53-38\" target=\"_blank\">Newsday\/Siena College poll<\/a>. Fifty-three percent of those interviewed said they planned to vote for Zeldin, while 38 percent backed Throne-Holst &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Zeldin <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsday.com\/long-island\/politics\/lee-zeldin-anna-throne-holst-spar-at-first-congress-debate-1.12419992\" target=\"_blank\">isn&#8217;t backing down<\/a> in the face of Throne-Holst&#8217;s antigun attacks either:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Zeldin repeatedly accused Throne-Holst of lying during the debate, including on his record on gun control &#8230; Zeldin said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=13428\">Throne-Holst\u2019s TV campaign ads<\/a> showing armed guards during a school lockdown drill banging on doors as children hide inside classes exaggerated what actually happens. Throne-Holst responded that kids were terrified of lockdown drills, and blamed Congress and Zeldin for not passing stronger gun control laws &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is how Republicans should react when their opponent starts with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acronymfinder.com\/Pants_Shitting-Hysteria-(PSH).html\" target=\"_blank\">PSH<\/a>, call bullshit on it.<\/p>\n<p>More good news, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrcc.org\" target=\"_blank\">NRCC<\/a> is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nystateofpolitics.com\/2016\/10\/ny-3-nrcc-pulling-out-of-race\/\" target=\"_blank\">giving up<\/a> on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martinsforcongress.com\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Martins<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The National Republican Campaign Committee is pulling out of the race to replace <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Steve_Israel\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic Rep. Steve Israel<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latfor.state.ny.us\/maps\/2012c\/CD_map_rep_03.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">third congressional district<\/a>, multiple sources confirmed on Friday. Republicans had been hopeful the seat was a winnable one in an otherwise challenging electoral environment in New York &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/t7Tm0SQT7N4\" target=\"_blank\">Cue Nelson Muntz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; OB Murray, a spokesman and adviser to Republican candidate Jack Martins said he remains confident he will win next month &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The NRCC obviously doesn&#8217;t.  The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsday.com\/long-island\/politics\/suozzi-leads-martins-50-34-in-3rd-district-newsday-poll-says-1.12422006\" target=\"_blank\">latest poll<\/a> shows Martins losing 50-34 to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.suozziforcongress.com\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Suozzi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Suozzi is horrible and has been getting worse over the years, Martins doing a crash and burn is richly deserved.
