{"id":12907,"date":"2016-04-08T08:55:32","date_gmt":"2016-04-08T12:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=12907"},"modified":"2016-04-08T10:20:39","modified_gmt":"2016-04-08T14:20:39","slug":"memorandum-to-ed-cox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=12907","title":{"rendered":"Memorandum to Ed Cox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Journal News has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lohud.com\/story\/news\/politics\/politics-on-the-hudson\/2016\/04\/07\/outside-nyc-voter-enrollment-jumps\/82762308\/\" target=\"_blank\">breakdown of new voter registrations<\/a> in the state:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; While the number of active voters in the city dropped by about 100,000 from November to April, there were about 95,000 new voters in the rest of the state &#8212; including a rare increase in enrolled Republicans &#8230; Statewide, Republicans had a jump in enrollment as interest builds for the GOP primary in New York. Democrats had an even larger increase outside the city, up by about 50,000 voters, or 2 percent &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t good news for the Republicans.\u00a0 Half their new registrations are in NYC where they are overwhelmed by Democrats between 6x and 13x except on Staten Island where it is only 1.6x.\u00a0 They might get some new donors out of it, but not likely any new electeds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nygop.org\" target=\"_blank\">NYGOP<\/a> chief Ed Cox is quoted as saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; The party, he said, has expanded its voter outreach, <strong>such as putting up signs in gun stores to get customers to enroll as Republicans, trying to build off the anger of gun-rights groups to the state&#8217;s SAFE Act, a gun-control law adopted in 2013.<\/strong> &#8220;It\u2019s all about building for us, in this very blue state, giving the grassroots of the Republican Party an exciting time, and they will be decisive in deciding who the nominee of the party is going to be and, as far as they are concerned, the next president of the United States,&#8221; Cox said &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Uh Ed, the SAFE Act was passed with the full blessing on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenategop.net\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Republicans<\/a> when <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dean_Skelos\" target=\"_blank\">Dean Skelos<\/a> refused to even slow down the process.\u00a0 You <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">own<\/span> this.\u00a0 More importantly most of the new Democrat registrations are in Republican parts of the state <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.hudsonvalley.com\/fray\/2016\/04\/05\/democratic-enrollment-edge-grows-in-orange-county\/\" target=\"_blank\">like Bill Larkin&#8217;s district<\/a> in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latfor.state.ny.us\/profiles\/2012senate\/2012SD39.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">SD-39<\/a>.\u00a0 Reminding people who screwed them over is not a good idea.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; &#8220;There\u2019s a certain amount&#8221; of <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\" target=\"_blank\">Trump<\/a> enthusiasm fueling the new voter enrollments, &#8220;but it is also the fact that the political cycle and the dismay over the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Obama administration<\/a> \u2013 which is helping to fuel the Trump phenomenon,&#8221; Cox said &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That is probably true to an extent as The Donald is a local.\u00a0 However, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyfreeman.com\/general-news\/20160407\/new-poll-finds-70-of-americans-have-negative-view-of-trump\" target=\"_blank\">Trump&#8217;s 70% disapproval rating<\/a> is not something I&#8217;d want to be attached to.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D12907&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
