{"id":12500,"date":"2016-02-08T16:01:15","date_gmt":"2016-02-08T21:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=12500"},"modified":"2016-02-08T16:01:15","modified_gmt":"2016-02-08T21:01:15","slug":"meeting-mosley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=12500","title":{"rendered":"Meeting Mosley"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in October <a href=\"http:\/\/assembly.state.ny.us\/mem\/Walter-T-Mosley\/\" target=\"_blank\">Assemblyman Walter Mosley<\/a> announced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=12000\">he joined the NRA<\/a> to learn more about the other side.<\/p>\n<p>Today I met him in his Albany office. A few observations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I believe he is sincere in learning about the other side of the argument. I told him he is the first such legislator to consider doing that in the 25 years I&#8217;ve been following gun politics.<\/li>\n<li>He said he did receive a little negative feedback back home after joining <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nra.org\" target=\"_blank\">NRA<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>He is planning on attending the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nraam.org\" target=\"_blank\">annual meeting<\/a> in Louisville and the legal seminar.<\/li>\n<li>He does not have any first hand experience shooting. He has only handled a gun belonging to a relative.<\/li>\n<li>He has limited knowledge of firearms laws outside the state. He has spoken with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklynda.org\" target=\"_blank\">local DA<\/a> and with one out of state. I told him at some point in the future NYC law is going to change either through Congressional action (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nraila.org\/articles\/20151030\/national-right-to-carry-reciprocity-legislation\" target=\"_blank\">reciprocity<\/a>) and\/or court cases (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/frankminiter\/2015\/06\/22\/is-this-the-gun-case-the-u-s-supreme-court-will-take\/#e9b6cf51d7b7\" target=\"_blank\">Peruta<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/wireStory\/court-orders-reconsideration-maryland-gun-law-ruling-36741317\" target=\"_blank\">Kolbe<\/a><\/em>, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Overall, I think he is a decent enough guy.
