Chris Gibson running for Governor in 2018<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some excerpts:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/gibson.house.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Gibson<\/a> assumes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Cuomo<\/a> will seek a third term, and he concedes the governor would be difficult to beat in a state where Democrats have a 2-to1 enrollment advantage &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I don&#8217;t agree with this on several points.<\/p>\n<p>First, I am not sure he is interested in another term.\u00a0 There was a finality in his tone after his re-election last year.\u00a0 Second, Democrats hate Cuomo.\u00a0 He was re-elected because of a deal made with with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenategop.net\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Republicans<\/a> to undermine <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RobAstorino\" target=\"_blank\">Rob Astorino<\/a>.\u00a0 Third, and this is the big one, I am not convinced Cuomo will be able to finish out his current term due to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democratandchronicle.com\/story\/news\/local\/2015\/12\/26\/preet-bharara-new-york-corruption-albany-prosecutor\/77883640\/\" target=\"_blank\">criminal probes by Preet <span class=\"st\">Bharara<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Gibson would have obvious vulnerabilities, including little name recognition downstate &#8230; He&#8217;s also an opponent of the SAFE Act and gun control generally &#8230; Gibson vowed to take his views on guns directly at Cuomo, arguing that additional state restrictions will do nothing to make New Yorkers more safe.\u00a0 &#8220;I&#8217;m willing to debate this everywhere,&#8221; Gibson said. &#8220;The knee-jerk reaction for gun control has never delivered, and it won&#8217;t deliver.&#8221;\u00a0 That may play well upstate.
