{"id":12249,"date":"2015-12-24T11:05:22","date_gmt":"2015-12-24T16:05:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=12249"},"modified":"2015-12-24T11:05:22","modified_gmt":"2015-12-24T16:05:22","slug":"recognition-from-assemblyman-lavine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=12249","title":{"rendered":"Recognition from Assemblyman Lavine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/patch.com\/new-york\/glencove\/roosevelt-field-shooting-part-national-firearm-crisis-lavine\" target=\"_blank\">Always nice to be recognized<\/a> by a member of the legislature:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Long Island residents have been up in arms since the attempted robbery and shooting that occurred at Roosevelt Field Mall on Tuesday afternoon.  <a href=\"http:\/\/assembly.state.ny.us\/mem\/Charles-D-Lavine\/\" target=\"_blank\">Assemblyman Charles Lavine<\/a> issued a letter to County Executive Ed Mangano on his concerns following this incident &#8230; Dear <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nassaucountyny.gov\/481\/County-Executive\" target=\"_blank\">County Executive Mangano<\/a> &#8230; Notwithstanding the support you receive from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nra.org\" target=\"_blank\">National Rifle Association<\/a>, its Political Voting Fund, its Institute for Legislative Action and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysrpa.org\" target=\"_blank\">New York State Rifle and Pistol Association<\/a>, its official state affiliate, the Roosevelt Field shooting represents yet another instance of our national crisis in the proliferation of firearms &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I appreciate the mention Charlie.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s real funny when you talk about &#8220;gun violence&#8221; given your past history of <a href=\"http:\/\/pqasb.pqarchiver.com\/newsday\/access\/103407549.html?dids=103407549:103407549&#038;FMT=ABS&#038;FMTS=ABS:FT&#038;type=current&#038;date=Jun+29%2C+1989&#038;author=By+Beth+Holland&#038;pub=Newsday+%28Combined+editions%29&#038;desc=Byrne+Triggerman+Gets+the+Max+Sentencing+closes+book+on+cop%27s+murder\" target=\"_blank\">defending killers<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; The other three men convicted of Byrne&#8217;s murder, Philip Copeland, Todd Scott and Scott Cobb, already have been sentenced to the maximum term. Both Scott and Cobb, in videotaped confessions, named McClary as the one who shot Byrne at point-blank range. Charles Lavine, McClary&#8217;s court-appointed attorney, argued that the judge should go easier on his client than the others, because McClary had no criminal record.
