Cuomo manipulates the GOP Senate<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Despite public claims to the contrary, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Gov. Cuomo<\/a> worked behind-the-scenes with the Republican-led Senate to defeat Assembly Democrats &#8230; Cuomo, the de facto head of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydems.org\" target=\"_blank\">state Democratic Party<\/a>, defeated a range of Democrat-sponsored proposals supposedly on his agenda through a \u201ctwo-against-one\u201d strategy in which he allied with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senator\/john-j-flanagan\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan (R-Suffolk)<\/a> against <a href=\"http:\/\/assembly.state.ny.us\/mem\/Carl-E-Heastie\/\" target=\"_blank\">Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D-Bronx)<\/a>, leaving Heastie no choice but to fold, the sources said.\u00a0 \u201cThroughout the negotiations, <strong>there was never any real difference between the positions of Cuomo and Flanagan<\/strong>.\u00a0 It was two against one with Cuomo pulling Flanagan\u2019s strings to corner Heastie,\u201d said a source with direct knowledge of the secret end-of-session deal-making &#8230; \u201cNot that there should have been, but if there was any doubt that <strong>Senate Republicans are nothing but a tool of Cuomo<\/strong> to use against his fellow Democrats, there isn\u2019t anymore,\u2019\u2019 the source complained &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This was pretty obvious.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; \u201cFlanagan had the greatest leverage any Republican could have over Cuomo, Heastie and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/office-of-the-mayor\/\" target=\"_blank\">[Mayor] de Blasio<\/a>: the expiring New York City rent laws,\u201d noted one of the state\u2019s best-known Republicans.\u00a0 \u201cAnd how did he use it?\u00a0 He gave it away, got virtually nothing for it, renewed the laws without extracting much of anything that could help Republicans out of the disastrous hole they\u2019re in, not to mention help the state as a whole,\u201d the source continued &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Why not use this leverage to move\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=11571\">the SAFE amendments bill<\/a>?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Senate sources said Flanagan, like Skelos before him, was willing to take direction from Cuomo on most issues in exchange for an understanding that the governor wouldn\u2019t campaign next year against Republican senators, who hold a bare one-vote margin over the Democrats.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is the same dumb-shit strategy the RINO&#8217;s have pushed for years despite the fact the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">undeniable<\/span> result of this policy is less Republicans getting elected to public office.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D11618&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden;  width:150px; height:21px;\" allowTransparency=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/li><li class=\"twtr\" style=\"width:90px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=11618\">&nbsp;<\/a><script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=\/^http:\/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+':\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');<\/script><\/li><li class=\"gplus\" style=\"width:68px\"><div class=\"g-plusone\" data-size=\"medium\" data-href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=11618\"><\/div><\/li><li class=\"ssb_linkedin\" style=\"width:64px\"><script src=\"\/\/platform.linkedin.com\/in.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\">lang: en_US<\/script><script type=\"IN\/Share\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=11618\" data-counter=\"right\"><\/script><\/li><\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good op-ed by Fred Dicker about how Gov.
