{"id":11479,"date":"2015-05-06T15:05:07","date_gmt":"2015-05-06T19:05:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=11479"},"modified":"2015-05-06T15:05:07","modified_gmt":"2015-05-06T19:05:07","slug":"karma-makes-appointment-with-the-gop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=11479","title":{"rendered":"Karma makes appointment with the GOP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sooner, not later, <a href=\"http:\/\/nypost.com\/2015\/05\/05\/the-rancid-call-to-keep-dean-skelos\/\" target=\"_blank\">this will blow up<\/a> in the Republicans face:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenategop.net\" target=\"_blank\">State Senate Republicans<\/a> are just fine with rampant corruption.\u00a0 At least, that\u2019s the message the caucus sent Monday night by voting to let freshly indicted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senator\/dean-g-skelos\" target=\"_blank\">Dean Skelos<\/a> stay on as their leader.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t pathetic \u2014 it\u2019s rancid.\u00a0 The vote of confidence came just hours after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao\/nys\/meetattorney.html\" target=\"_blank\">US Attorney Preet Bharara<\/a> dropped <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scribd.com\/doc\/264064117\/U-S-v-Skelos-15-Mag-1492-filed-pdf\" target=\"_blank\">a 43-page criminal complaint<\/a>.\u00a0 This outlined years of evidence \u2014 including witness testimony, e-mails and phone wiretaps \u2014 in charging that Skelos sold his office to enrich his son Adam.\u00a0 The senators actually managed the miracle of making <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysdacc.org\" target=\"_blank\">Assembly Democrats<\/a> look good &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>They further embarrassed themselves today when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senator\/jack-m-martins\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Martins<\/a> put down efforts by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senator\/daniel-l-squadron\" target=\"_blank\">Daniel Squadron<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senator\/michael-gianaris\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Gianaris<\/a> to get a floor vote on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Senate<\/a> leadership:<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Democratic Effort To Oust Skelos Is Rebuffed: Senate Republicans beat back an effort from Democratic lawmakers&#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/jQP8lyWmKu\">http:\/\/t.co\/jQP8lyWmKu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 State of Politics (@StateOfPolitics) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StateOfPolitics\/status\/596021167846129664\">May 6, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nystateofpolitics.com\/2015\/05\/suffolk-county-gop-chair-calls-on-skelos-to-resign\/\" target=\"_blank\">calls for Skelos to step aside<\/a> are growing.
