{"id":11390,"date":"2015-03-31T16:54:55","date_gmt":"2015-03-31T20:54:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=11390"},"modified":"2015-03-31T16:54:55","modified_gmt":"2015-03-31T20:54:55","slug":"wasting-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=11390","title":{"rendered":"Wasting money"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rich, antigun crackpot shows <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/metro\/2015\/03\/30\/dozens-billboards-railing-against-gun-violence-replace-landmark-sign-turnpike\/NVPbQBdhDH1NCMXDPuNnVJ\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">how to waste money<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The Newton nonprofit that for two decades sponsored the eye-grabbing billboard along the Massachusetts Turnpike that inveighed against gun violence is promising to keep that message fresh in the minds of motorists with a new series of targeted ads.\u00a0 Beginning Tuesday, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stophandgunviolence.org\" target=\"_blank\">Stop Handgun Violence<\/a> will be \u201csaturating\u201d highway signs at three-dozen locations across the state, an interim solution until cofounder <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meredithmanagement.com\" target=\"_blank\">John Rosenthal<\/a> finalizes construction of the Fenway Center complex over the turnpike &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These billboards have been up for decades.\u00a0 What have they accomplished?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Jim Wallace, executive director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goal.org\" target=\"_blank\">Gun Owners\u2019 Action League<\/a>, the state affiliate of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nra.org\" target=\"_blank\">National Rifle Association<\/a>, laughed at the words and imagery used for the billboard when a reporter described it &#8230; Wallace called Rosenthal\u2019s turnpike billboard an \u201ceyesore,\u201d and said it hasn\u2019t amounted to anything in the 20 years since it was installed.\u00a0 He expects the same could be said about Rosenthal\u2019s latest push.\u00a0 \u201cThe billboards are ineffective.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think they have any effect at all, and I don\u2019t think they\u2019ve had any effect on firearm safety in general,\u201d he said &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Exactly.\u00a0 A small gun group tried that in New York with similar billboards calling for repeal of the SAFE Act.\u00a0 The result?\u00a0 Tens of thousands of dollars wasted and nothing to show for it.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D11390&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
