Peter King, the gruff congressman from Long Island, has an anti-vision.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t so much want to be president as he wants to keep some of his Republican colleagues from being president &#8230; \u201cMy main thing first of all is to take advantage of the opportunity with my name being mentioned to get out and speak about issues I care about, and secondly to make sure that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paul.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Rand Paul<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Ted Cruz<\/a> types don\u2019t take over the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gop.org\" target=\"_blank\">Republican Party<\/a>.\u201d &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>King is one of the last of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rockefeller_Republican\" target=\"_blank\">Rockefeller Republicans<\/a>.\u00a0 Running to the left of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/governor\/\" target=\"_blank\">Governor Christie<\/a>, he&#8217;d like the national GOP to be more like the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nygop.org\" target=\"_blank\">New York GOP<\/a>.\u00a0 The fact that the state committee is a joke and has been on a downward spiral for decades precisely because it has been run by people like Pete should be enough to discredit him.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Some of the wounds of King\u2019s image are surely self-inflicted &#8230; There was the time, in the wake of the shooting of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americansforresponsiblesolutions.org\" target=\"_blank\">Congressman Gabby Giffords<\/a>, he proposed a bill that would have barred anyone from carrying firearms within 1,000 feet of an elected official (the rest of us, apparently, would be left to fend for ourselves.) &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Because politicians are closer to God than the rest of us.\u00a0 He&#8217;s been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/fastfeatures\/peter-king-2016-political-background\/2015\/01\/30\/id\/621849\/\" target=\"_blank\">pushing gun control schemes<\/a> for years:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; In 2006 and 2008, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bradycampaign.org\" target=\"_blank\">Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence<\/a> endorsed King on its website &#8230; King has been a vocal proponent of expanded background checks and has introduced stricter gun control measures, particularly in the wake of mass shootings &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Fortunately I cannot see his campaign getting any traction.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D11209&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
