Governor Cuomo’s<\/a> addition of Kathy Hochul<\/a> to the ticket in an attempt to appeal to upstate and the FUDDs<\/a> has failed.<\/p>\n

First off, the FUDDs weren’t buying it.\u00a0 Upstate residents weren’t either as their donations to his re-election campaign have dried up<\/a>.\u00a0 Now the Democrat base is going after Hochul<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“… Now that Democratic gubernatorial candidate Zephyr Teachout<\/a> has survived Gov. Andrew Cuomo\u2019s residency challenge<\/a> and is assured a spot on the Sept. 9 primary ballot, her campaign is turning up the heat on Cuomo\u2019s running mate, Kathy Hochul.\u00a0 Last night, Teachout and her running mate, Columbia Law Prof. Tim Wu<\/a>, released a video highlighting Hochul\u2019s voting record and statements \u2013 both as the Erie County clerk and as a congresswoman …\u00a0 There\u2019s also footage of Hochul touting her backing from the NRA<\/a> … The video concludes by deeming Hochul the \u201cwrong\u201d kind of Democrat for New York, and highlighting Wu as a \u201cprogressive\u201d candidate for LG …”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Teachout and Wu aren’t likely to win, but they could do well enough to embarrass Cuomo.\u00a0 He’s apparently concerned enough about that happening to pay for a mailing<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“… A mailer from the state Democratic Committee<\/a> touts both Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his running mate Kathy Hochul, and urges voters to take part in the Sept. 9 Democratic primary … The flyer also quotes Hochul, a former Democratic House representative from wester New York, praising Cuomo\u2019s record.\u00a0 \u201cIn just four years, Governor Cuomo raised the minimum wage, reduced the middle-class income tax rate, put us on the road to universal pre-K, pass commonsense gun regulations<\/strong> and brought marriage equality to New York,\u201d the mailer says …”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He’s kidding himself if he thinks gun control is going to help him, but he can’t back away from it now.\u00a0\u00a0NYAGV<\/a> hasn’t even endorsed him, not that their endorsements carry any weight anyway, nor do I see any effort by Bloomberg’s people<\/a> to come to his aid.<\/p>\n
