Cuomo<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senator\/george-s-latimer\" target=\"_blank\">Sen. George Latimer\u2019s<\/a> GOP opponent is still not decided. \u00a0But Republicans have submitted petitions for a potential candidate: Jean Maisano, director of public relations at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguidancecenter.org\" target=\"_blank\">The Guidance Center of Westchester<\/a> &#8230; Asked whether she was planning on challenging Latimer, Jean Maisano paused for eight seconds. \u201cI haven\u2019t made a decision on that,\u201d she said &#8230; When asked whether she was a placeholder on the ballot until the GOP could find a Latimer opponent, Maisano returned to her statement: \u201cLike I said, I\u2019m happy to help ensure that the seat will be contested this year.\u201d &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You&#8217;re a placeholder.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230;\u00a0The Latimer\/Cohen race in 2012 was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/david-a-singer\/george-latimer-bob-cohen_b_1964933.html\" target=\"_blank\">one of the nastiest<\/a>\u00a0in the state, with Democrats characterizing Cohen as a New York City slumlord and an anonymous group hammering Latimer with a series of mailers and advertisements &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Cohen lost by like less than 1%. \u00a0Don&#8217;t tell me this wouldn&#8217;t be a competitive race again <strong>if<\/strong> the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westchestergop.com\" target=\"_blank\">GOP<\/a> put up a candidate. \u00a0The question is why haven&#8217;t they? \u00a0Surely there is some local councilman or supervisor interested in moving up the political food chain.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Privately, Senate Democrats have been preparing for a similarly bruising battle as they attempt to keep the seat in 2014 &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I don&#8217;t believe that. \u00a0A serious contender would have been preparing to run 6-12 months ago, building momentum and money. \u00a0That hasn&#8217;t happened. \u00a0Anyone who jumps in now would be little more than paper candidate.<\/p>\n<p>The way I see it, there is one of two possible reasons the GOP isn&#8217;t contesting this seat:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Westchester Republicans are morons (not out of the question).<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s a backroom deal with Democrats and\/or Cuomo to keep Latimer in office.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I&#8217;m going with #2 as being more probable.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D10465&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden;  width:150px; height:21px;\" allowTransparency=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/li><li class=\"twtr\" style=\"width:90px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=10465\">&nbsp;<\/a><script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=\/^http:\/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+':\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');<\/script><\/li><li class=\"gplus\" style=\"width:68px\"><div class=\"g-plusone\" data-size=\"medium\" data-href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=10465\"><\/div><\/li><li class=\"ssb_linkedin\" style=\"width:64px\"><script src=\"\/\/platform.linkedin.com\/in.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\">lang: en_US<\/script><script type=\"IN\/Share\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=10465\" data-counter=\"right\"><\/script><\/li><\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More evidence of deal between the Senate Republicans and Gov.
