Either way we lose

Jacob Sullum opines:

“… Trump’s defense of the right to armed self-defense may be his biggest advantage over Clinton, who promises a bunch of new gun restrictions without so much as mentioning the Second Amendment. Trump, who used to support waiting periods for gun purchases and a federal ban on so-called assault weapons, may not be completely sincere on this subject. But assuming the next president gets to pick a replacement for Antonin Scalia, Trump is more likely than Clinton to choose a justice who will continue to enforce constitutional restrictions on gun control …”

No

According to The Donald:

Donald Trump expects to win the Republican nomination for president, and he predicted that upstate New York would help him beat Hillary Clinton in November. And why not, according to Trump: He says he’s the most popular person in upstate New York — possibly ever …”

No.

NJ Republicans push to loosen gun law

Interesting development next door, “Republicans will push to loosen N.J. gun possession laws“:

“Top Republicans in the state Assembly plan to unveil legislation Tuesday they say would help people charged in minor gun possession cases in New Jersey avoid unfair jail time. Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick (R-Union) told NJ Advance Media that one bill would make it easier for prosecutors to reduce or change charges against someone accused of breaking a state gun possession law … People from out of state convicted of violating state gun laws get a minimum three and a half year jail sentence …”

That’s good news.  Let’s see if any of our local officials follow along.

Cuomo ready to run

Fred Dicker writes,”Cuomo ready to run if Hillary or Bernie doesn’t take White House”:

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has sent the strongest signal yet that he’s ready to run for president if a Democrat fails to win in November, even as top Democrats confide that Cuomo’s presidential campaign is already under way …”

Dear God, why?

I know it is Andrew’s ego, but as I’ve talked much about before, Democrats do not like him.  Is the party so bankrupt that he is the best they’ve got?

Going to cause trouble

Gallup polling finds:

“… 33% of Americans view Trump favorably and 60% unfavorably …”

At some point this is going to start causing a lot of trouble.

Ulster Sheriff in the news

NRA did a story on Ulster Co. Sheriff Paul Van Blarcum’s support for armed citizens in the latest issue of America’s 1st Freedom.

It looks real good.  Plus Van Blarcum is a Democrat, although the story does not mention it.

Trump leading the pack

Bad news, The Donald won South Carolina.

Good news, he seems to have knocked out Jeb Bush in the process.

Giving credit where it is due, Trump has lasted longer than I would have thought.  Some of this is due to the man himself, some to the open primaries where Democrats and independents could vote, but a lot has to due with the overcrowded GOP field and the ineptness of the other candidates.

It is too soon to declare him the nominee.  As the field thins even more he could be overshadowed.

Bernie’s plan

CNN wonders, “Where is Bernie Sanders’ gun control plan?“:

“… Bernie Sanders said that his campaign was assembling a “comprehensive package” of plans to address gun violence in the United States. Months later, the insurgent candidate has failed to live up to that pledge. Sanders’ campaign has yet to issue a detailed policy paper on gun control … his campaign does not list fighting gun violence on his more than 20-position-long issue page on his website …”

Bernie’s plan is to ignore this stinker of an issue.  CNN is unwilling or unable to grasp that.

The New Republic then asks, “Why Don’t Bernie Sanders’s Millennial Supporters Care About His Record on Guns?“:

“… Gun control has become a key issue within the Democratic Party … Polls consistently show that most Democrats, and even half of independents, favor stricter gun laws. And yet, Clinton’s attacks don’t seem to be working: Sanders continues to close the gap in national polls. Do his famed Millennial supporters even care about his record on guns? “Oh yeah, it’s just not much of an issue for me,” said Arona Kessler, 29, a professional pro-choice advocate from Alexandria, Virginia … Jason Mazza, a 21-year-old college student on Long Island … “Overall though, gun control isn’t really that important of an issue to me.” …”

Answer:  Because they don’t care about gun control.  It is one thing to give an affirmative answer to a poll question and another very different thing to actively go out and do something in support of that issue.

“… These sentiments must be disheartening to the gun control groups that have injected themselves into the primaries, largely breaking in favor of Clinton …”

Cue Nelson Muntz.

If the Democrat base is saying they do not think gun control is that important, then what exactly are the gun control groups which support Hillary Clinton bringing to the table along with their endorsement?  Nothing.  Hence, there is no reason for Bernie to pander to them.

Trump supported Cuomo

The Donald is making lame threats about suing Ted Cruz because he had the audacity to list some of the donations he had given to Democrats in the past.

It includes donations totally $84,000 to Andrew Cuomo over the years.

Bonus: In 2014 Trump donated $5000 to Ted Cruz’s leadership PAC.
