Cuomo running for V.P.?

Fred Dicker theorizes, “Is Cuomo trying to run for vice president on Biden’s ticket?

Gov. Cuomo’s dream of being president has been dashed for the current election cycle but that doesn’t mean he isn’t angling for the second- most-powerful job in the nation: vice president on a ticket headed by current VP Joe Biden.  That’s the most provocative of three theories circulating among state Democrats seeking to explain Cuomo’s effusive, jaw-dropping, and attention-grabbing embrace of Biden over the past two weeks … Cuomo’s showcasing of Biden during three high-profile appearances together last Thursday and Friday and during the previous week were seen by some of the state’s most influential Democrats as what one called “an obvious effort’’ to join a Biden ticket …”

Possible, but I doubt it.  Andrew’s popularity is nowhere near what it was and he would not bring a lot of positives to the ticket.

“… Several angry Democrats, all strong Clinton backers, told The Post that Cuomo’s embrace of Biden had further damaged the former first lady and secretary of state as she struggles with investigations into her private e-mail server, plunging poll numbers, and what seems to many like a President Obama-backed Biden candidacy …”

No.  Andrew is even less likable than Hillary.  Staying away from the campaign is a plus for her.

“… The second theory holds that Cuomo has been promoting Biden to put pressure on Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Southern District US Attorney Preet Bharara, and possibly Obama himself to block or terminate Bharara’s investigation of Cuomo’s shutdown last year of the corruption-fighting Moreland Commission and allegations he or his aides sought to interfere with the probe …”

Possible, but what would Obama and Biden get out of this?  Democrats do not have much love for Andrew so what would they get by helping him out?

“… Mayor de Blasio, Cuomo’s Democratic nemesis, is at the center of the third theory, which holds that the governor’s embrace of Biden is part of an effort to overshadow the politically struggling mayor …”

I’m going with this one.

Rick Perry out

Rick Perry has dropped out of the ’16 race.

Was he ever really in it?

Perry has a decent enough record as Governor of Texas, but he just can’t seem to put a campaign together.  He makes G. Elmer look competent by comparison.

Too soon for an endorsement

GOA has endorsed Ted Cruz:

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has received the endorsement of Gun Owners of America, a national Second Amendment advocacy group, in his bid for the presidency of the United States. “We need a stalwart defender of the Second Amendment in the White House, and Ted Cruz will help shoulder the burden of fighting against the gun grabbers dedicated to eviscerating the Second Amendment,” the organization’s chairman Tim Macy said …”

I like Cruz, but it is way too soon for an endorsement.  He’s got to show he has the ability to put together a national campaign and raise a boatload of cash first.

Cuomo is not antigun

Governor Cuomo says “I am not antigun.”

See the video starting at 2:39 at “New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo calls for ‘national gun policy’ after lawyer shot.

Good questioning by CNN reporter Alisyn Camerota.

New York supports D.C. gun law

New York signed a brief supporting Washington D.C. may-issue CCW law:

“… Last week, the attorneys general of Maryland, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, and New York filed a brief in defense of D.C.’s concealed carry law, alongside gun control groups like the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and local organizations D.C. Appleseed, D.C. Vote and the League of Women Voters …”

I believe ~24 states signed a pro-gun brief in opposition.

City Council race

City Council Watch has a breakdown of the District 23 special election.

We have a reasonable shot at knocking out Barry Grodenchik, who during his brief time in the Assembly, went along with every gun control bill which came up for a vote.

Support Gwen Johnson

The Poughkeepsie Journal published my letter in support of Dutchess Co. Legislator Gwen Johnson in today’s paper, although they left off my title which was important:

I am writing in support of Dutchess County Legislator Gwen Johnson. Back in April, she stood with us at a press conference outside City Hall to express her opposition to a proposed city ordinance prohibiting the keeping of firearms readily available for self-defense.

On behalf of the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, I would like to thank her for having the courage to stand up to the outside special interests lobbying for such a law and encourage voters to support her in the Sept. 10 Democratic primary.
