O’Brien stands by SAFE Act
O’Brien doubling down on SAFE
Senator Ted O’Brien is doubling down on his SAFE vote by accepting the endorsement of NYAGV and the Brady’s.
At this point he probably figures he’s got nothing to lose by accepting their endorsement. The latest poll shows his challenger Rich Funke has a huge 25 point lead over him. Sometime in the near future Ted is going to discover that their endorsement doesn’t mean anything and won’t get him any money, volunteers or votes.
Observations
Aside from the fact that the Republican establishment is the biggest support of Gov. Cuomo, there is other funny shit going on:
- Too much niceness – Notwithstanding a little snipping here and there, there isn’t much acrimony between the party and the candidates.
- Democrat control of the State Senate looks to have gone out the window and nobody is unhappy about it.
- Signs – Where are they? I have not seen a single sign for Cuomo or either candidate for Attorney General or Comptroller. There are numerous places where I have seen sign farms in years past and they are not there this year.

Yet another local member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns is headed to prison:
“Mount Vernon Mayor Ernest Davis faces up to two years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to two counts of willfully failing to file federal income tax returns … Davis, who has long been under federal scrutiny, also pleaded guilty to charges that in 2003 he failed to report proceeds from the sale of a property at 14-16 E. Sandford Boulevard that he owned from 1988 to 2003. The proceeds were omitted from both a corporate filing and personal income tax returns for that year …”
Sean Eldridge imploding
Antigun carpetbagger Sean Eldridge makes Roll Call’s, “The 9 Biggest Candidate Flameouts“:

One of 17 Republicans representing districts Obama carried in 2012, GOP Rep. Chris Gibson started the cycle as a top Democratic target. Democrats were hopeful Eldridge — the wealthy husband of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes — could mount a serious challenge.
But Eldridge stumbled right out the gate with a New York Times profile that made him look out of touch in this largely blue-collar district, nestled in the far-reaching New York City suburbs and stretching into the Catskill mountains. As a result, Republicans nicknamed him “$ean Eldridge” — a moniker that’s stuck with him throughout the campaign.
Eldridge’s bid never really recovered, and the DCCC never reserved television airtime here to change that.

Latest poll has Gibson with a 24-point lead over Eldridge.
