Primary challenge for Cuomo

Gov. Cuomo will be in a primary:

“Calling themselves “progressive Democrats,” Zephyr Teachout and Tim Wu announced their candidacy this morning for the Democratic nomination for governor and lieutenant governor, challenging Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his running mate, Kathy Hochul …”

HAHAHAHAHA!!  Sucking up to the WFP was a waste of time.

What is Andrew’s response?

“Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday shrugged off the primary challenge from Fordham Law professor Zephyr Teachout, who is launching her gubernatorial campaign and petitioning process … Cuomo added it’s “inaccurate” to suggest he hasn’t been sufficiently liberal, pointing to … the controversial gun control package known as the SAFE Act …”

Pushing gun control doesn’t make you a liberal.  It makes you an asshole.  Andrew does not understand this.

Astorino comes to Wallkill

Rob Astorino came to Wallkill Rod & Gun Club yesterday for the NYSRPA annual meeting. His talk had the same theme he’s been using everywhere, “Is New York Winning or Losing?

Rob Astorino

Cuomo’s problems not going away

Governor Cuomo’s problems with the Left are not going away.

Zephyr Teachout is still gathering signatures to primary him for either the WFP and/or Democrat nomination.  Even better, former Assemblyman Michael Benjamin wonders if the deal Cuomo cut with the WFP for their endorsement ends up hurting him and the state Democrat party in the long term.

SAFE’s effect on New York City

So, how has the SAFE been working out for City residents?

“The number of shooting victims has skyrocketed across the city this year — up 43 percent in just the last month — while fewer guns are coming off the streets, NYPD statistics reveal …”

Unpossible.

“… sources told The Post it will only get worse in the hotter summer months, and that the alarming trend is the result of a more “reactive” police force handicapped by the inability to use tactics like stop-and-frisk …”

But we have gun control to keep us SAFE …

“… Since January, there has been an overall 13.2 percent increase in shooting victims, while 10.2 percent fewer guns have been recovered compared to 2013 …”

Well, maybe not.

Go full retard on gun control

Dean Obeidallah at the Daily Beast encourages antigunners to go big or go home:

“Anyone else tired of the same old bullshit we see after every gun-shooting spree? …”

Yes.  I can always count on talking heads from the lamestream media to trout out the same liars, misfits and fools pushing their agenda of hate.

“…The news breaks of these incidents and the gun forces spring into action.  Those seeking to end gun violence demand new laws be enacted …”

Virtually all of which are orchestrated displays of astroturf.

“… This is, of course, met by the pro-gun forces urging people not to politicize a tragedy …”

How dare gunnies fight back.

“…  Or worse, people like “Joe the Plumber” callously saying, in essence, “I don’t care if your kid dies as long as I have unlimited access to guns.”  The NRA and Joe the Plumber view dead Americans as an acceptable loss so that they can have easy access to guns …”

Joe had the nerve to call BS on the antis usual tactic of attempting to blame and shame gun owners into capitulating to their demands and they don’t like it one bit.

“… And then comes the politicians. They respond by doing nothing …”

Untrue.  They just did not do what Dean wanted them to do.

“… And the winner time and time again is the NRA.  Why? …”

Because they know the general public is behind them which is something the antis will never, ever admit.

“… The reality is that the NRA will keep winning unless something changes in the approach by those like myself who desperately want to see a reduction in the number of people killed by guns each and every day.  It’s either time we try a different approach or shut up.  I’m not being rude, just being honest.  Simply repeating the same arguments and hoping for a different result is a waste of time …”

Translation: We aren’t fooling anybody.  Time to go full retard.

“… So what can be done that’s different? Well, here are a few suggestions.  Some are activities already happening that need more support, while others are more long-term ideas.   1. Grassroots activism targeting corporations.  A band of courageous mothers lead by Shannon Watts have created “Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense” and are engaged in a grassroots campaign in same vein as Mothers Against Drunk Driving …”

This is a blatantly phony front funded by Mayor Bloomberg and everybody knows it.  There is absolutely nothing grassroots about it.

“… There’s also the National Gun Victims Action Council (NGVAC) founded by Elliot Fineman, whose son was killed by a mentally ill gunmen …”

Days of Our Trailers covers Fineman and NGVAC.

“… NGVAC has called for a boycott this Father’s Day of cards made by Hallmark …”

First I’ve heard of this so it must be a really big success.

“… 2. Use the tactics of anti-abortion groups. For example, start holding up photos of people killed by gun violence at political events …”

The bulk of which are either suicides or low-lifes. Plus there are many more people who use guns for self-defense. Not admitting this does not make it untrue.

“… Or use the court system to file lawsuits to raise issues. Perhaps the victims of gun violence could sue the NRA if their loved one was killed by a gun obtained because of the NRA’s opposition to universal background checks.  A long shot yes, but tort law does evolve and there could be a finding that the NRA has a degree of culpability in spending millions to oppose laws that would have saved a person’s life …”

Using this logic, gunnies could then sue NYAGV, Brady, etc.

“… 3.  Repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. …”

Can’t have #2 (or make #2) without it.

“… 4. Rewrite the Second Amendment. I’m not saying repeal it, but take a page from the pro-gun lobby who for 20-plus years preached, wrote academic papers, held seminars, etc., to support the then-radical notion that the Second Amendment bestowed a personal right to own a gun, thus making it more challenging to enact laws that restrict access to them …”

Not too long ago he would not have even admitted the 2A acknowledged an individual civil right.  Shows how far the other side has fallen.

“… I can tell you this with confidence, unless those of us who want to reduce gun violence start changing their tactics, we will see more of our fellow Americans killed and the NRA will go on winning.  It’s time to think different or shut up …”

But you’re not thinking differently.  You’ve put up nothing but the same old, same old the antigunners have been saying and doing for decades.  The public is smart enough to see through it.

Democrats call fundraising “disgusting”

Really lame effort to discredit grassroots fundraising for Rob Astorino:

“Using a D-Day fundraising theme, a group supporting Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino calls for honoring the soldiers’ sacrifice by “removing tyrants” such as Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.  Democrats called the ad “disgusting” and “deplorable.” …”

I’m guessing Newsday has not figured out what F.U.A.C. means yet.

“… The online video announces a D-Day “money bomb,” a term campaigns have begun using in recent years to describe a 24-hour burst of fundraising.  It features still photos of the famous invasion of Normandy, soldiers’ graves, dramatic music and word graphics, though no narrator.  “Honor their sacrifice … They fought together as brothers-in-arms.  They died together,” the message says.  “To them we have a solemn obligation.”  As the photo transitions to two pictures of Cuomo, the graphic reads: “Remove tyrants.” …”

The horror!

“… Cuomo campaign officials didn’t immediately comment but instead directed questions to allies of the governor who had served in the military – such as Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.  “This video is one of the most deplorable things I have ever seen in politics,” Bellone, a Democrat who served in the Army, said in an email.  “The actions of Rob Astorino and his supporters are not only an insult to all who have served our great nation, but to every American.  This video is disgusting.  To attempt to capitalize and raise money for a political campaign off the sacrifices of our veterans is inexcusable.  This website should be shut down, the donations refused, and Rob Astorino should issue a solemn apology immediately.” …”

Such phony indignation.  Did Bellone get upset when Andrew told “extremists” they have no place in New York?  Of course not.

SAFE opened the door for the WFP endorsement

Frank Bruni at the Times opines that Gov. Cuomo’s endorsement by the WFP jeopardizes his chances of running for President in 2016 as a centrist Democrat:

“… Since becoming governor of New York three and a half years ago, Cuomo has been performing a balancing act with implications for Democratic politics well beyond the state … it speaks to a perennial challenge in both parties: How does a pragmatic politician steer the kind of centrist course that often works best in the long run without provoking a revolt from the more partisan warriors in his or her camp?  Over the weekend, Cuomo confronted such a revolt from the Working Families Party, which was threatening to complicate his re-election by running a candidate to his left.  He was forced to grovel before its members and to accept help in placating them from Bill de Blasio, a man he prefers to pummel and keep at a distance.  “It’s disastrous for him,” one prominent Democratic strategist told me, saying that it undermined Cuomo’s calculations and strategy to this point …”

I agree that it was an embarrassment for Andrew.  If he was really confidant of having a 30 point lead over Rob Astorino there would have been no reason for him to accept the WFP line.  Why did he choose to do that?

“… “He likes to live in the middle,” said another Democratic insider, one who has known him for decades. “That’s where the country is, and to the extent that you can find an authentic political pulse in him, that’s where he is.” … The prospect of a left too potent — and of anyone but him calling the shots — clearly chills him.  He wants to pick and choose his liberal flourishes, not have them chosen for him …”

That may be true on a personal level, but he made a bad decision during his 2013 State of the State to try and revive gun control as an issue, despite the slow death spiral it has been in for years, thinking it would be the foundation of his presidential bid.  It got Cuomo national attention, not for any substance on the issue, but because he totally lost his shit while pushing for it.  It has been downhill for him since then.

SAFE is what opened the door for the WFP.  If you could make God bleed, people would cease to believe in Him.  There will be blood in the water, the sharks will come …  And they did come.

Cuomo had to make promises to get their endorsement.  If he keeps those promises it will be bad for New York which will be bad for his his image nationally.  If he doesn’t keep them it will be bad for his image nationally among Democrats and the hard Left.  Either way, Cuomo comes out the loser.

Bloomberg’s efforts aren’t gun control

Kudos to David Gregory for finally admitting at 2:55 that antigunners don’t vote their issue while gunnies do.

Cuomo gets WFP ballot line

Gov. Cuomo managed to finagle the Working Families Party ballot line.  It is unclear if he will still be primaried for it or how many of it’s supporters will actually come out to help Andrew.

Bob McManus sums up the nomination process nicely:

“… [It] Revealed the famously ferocious Cuomo for the hollow log that he is — all echo and no innards [and] Provided US Attorney Preet Bharara with a boatload of new leads for his current corruption probes.  Offering policy concessions in return for political favors — which Cuomo & Co. reportedly spent most of Friday and Saturday doing — is a felony in some circles, after all …”

I think this is more of a PR win for Cuomo and won’t translate into much money/votes for his campaign.
